The Lib Dems still hold up very well there, despite the fact they've not won that ward at least in the last 10 years. It shows that Cheadle will be very tough for us to win, despite the lib dems national poll ratings. The Lib Dems have never won Bramhall South . The ward was only created in 2004 . Previously the Bramhall seats were East and West rather than North and South . Heald Green has only had Independent councillors for at least 15 years probably much longer . 15 years? I can't recall anyone coming near the Heald Green Residents in the last 45 years. This goes back to the days of the old Cheadle and Gatley Urban District Council.

Epsom and Ewell Busybodies can't be far off. Has the council there ever been controlled by anyone else? I seen ti remember timrollpickering saying they had been in control since the area became a UDC in the early 1930s

Has anyone ever made a serious effort to beat them? Labour would always put up a paper candidate and do little more than distribute the election address. I am not aware if the Liberals/Lib Dems or the Conservatives have had a serious go at Heald Green at any stage. I am not sure it would make much difference as the Heald Green Residents have the most formidable electoral machine and a track record of winning elections. The councillors were in touch with their electoral and avoided alliances that could cost them popularity. They didn't stand in the County elections in the days of GMC where Heald Green was paired with Cheadle and Gatley Ward. Maybe that would have been a step too far and could have damaged their reputation of invincibility had they lost?

I went leafleting in Bramhall once. Never seen so many grand pianos in my life! In those pre-twitter days I couldn't post an appropriate photograph .......

Heald Green folk are very proud of being from Heald Green.

I seen ti remember timrollpickering saying they had been in control since the area became a UDC in the early 1930s I think the UDC was earlier but the Residents party control certainly predates the late 1930s grant of borough status. It would be tricky to trace the full extent as you'd be in the quagmire of pseudo and genuine independents.
