Ironically the lib dems are absent in Newport again Why ironically? Ironic because they used to have a very strong presence in the town ( as did the Liberals before them). The old Newport North division on Shropshire county council was s long standing Liberal seat. Now they don't seem to even run candidates. |

Interesting, my dear Watson, that all the reports so far for the North Ayrshire by-election give just the first preference votes. The council's website still says "The result of the counting of votes will be displayed in due course".

Canvey of course gave us the incomparable Dr Feelgood so can be forgiven everything. It also used to be the constituency with the highest proportion of owner occupied property. And it would appear Wilko is with us for some time yet, which is wonderful |

Given the current Scottish polling, the fact that the North Ayrshire SNP vote was below the 2007 level is at least worth noting and nobody has yet, so I'll do it.

Both Labour and SNP down similar amounts, but what with independents and the like perhaps people have realised we can read little into it  |
