If hanging loads of England flags was a sure-fire sign of BNP members, Nick Griffin would be Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent. I wouldn't be caught dead with an England flag hanging out of my window, but it's not a surprise to see areas where it's common. Hell, I've even seen in parts of Liverpool. More likely to see a Tricolour here even now! Ah! Why am I unsurprised. Thank goodness it is so easy to avoid ever going to Merseyside or near it.

Emily Thornberry has resigned from the shadow cabinet. Good, a really unctuous character whose pomposity did nothing for the party's position among our traditional base.

I love and identify with my country, my party and my club. Look at Norway or the USA........flags everywhere. I have a flagpole on the front wall of my house. I fly the flag of St George on April 23rd, the Cornish flag on St Piran's Day, the Manx flag on Tynwald Day, the Sussex flag on Sussex Day (duh), the White Ensign on Trafalgar Day, the Portuguese flag on 3 or 4 national holidays a year (Carnation Day, etc.) for my son, and the Stars & Stripes on July 4th for my stepmother. I'm about to lose carlton43, and probably others... on Europe Day I fly the European flag. I also have French, Breton and Welsh flags, which have been given to me, but I have no reason to fly them. Not at all James. Excellent conduct and I commend you for it.

This story seems all a bit of ludicrous hysteria to me. Shouldn't some of the many dozens of journalists in Rochester & Strood right now be reporting on who actually lives in the property? It seems they are Whoever took the photo should have taken the trouble to grey out the number plate.

I can imagine that of all the parties, Labour should be the one where a landlady presiding over a load of ex-social housing wouldn't be too popular. And not let loose to talk about social housing. Her loss is Labour's gain.

Turnout = 50.67% according to Michael Crick. Slightly lower than Clacton which was 51.2%.

Emily Thornberry has resigned from the shadow cabinet. Good, a really unctuous character whose pomposity did nothing for the party's position among our traditional base. I suppose Simon Danczukipper is required for that purpose - but personally, I don't think all of our traditional base is likely to vote for us owing to very basic policy differences. Same with the other parties. Rather Thornberry than the Danczuks and Manns, or the dwindling band of social conservatives left in the party

Well, what a surprise that he didn't vote Labour..... we don't get much of this here, but large prominently displayed nationalistic flags very rarely leads to a Labour promise when canvassing!
