I hear that Labour are rather more worried than this poll would suggest. Betting odds shortened again for Labour after it was released, though - they are now 12 to 1 on or something like that? It is rare to lose an election from that "position" a week out (Bradford W is the only exception I can think of recently)

Right wing troll is right wing troll. Film at eleven. True, it's a nothingness story...but it's not what I'd expect a Labour candidate to say!

Right wing troll is right wing troll. Film at eleven. I think if a UKIP candidate had said he was "just an ordinary white working class person" we'd be hearing all about 'playing the race card' and 'dog whistles' from HnH and other Labour supporters. Devil Wincarnate is right, its not an expression that you would normally expect to hear from a Labour candidate and it clearly wasn't said by accident.

I wouldn't use the term (and not just because it's blisteringly obvious my background is not working class). But the term has acquired increasing currency in recent years and I think it's more an indication of linguistic change than any attempt to dog-whistle. It'd be a terrible dog-whistle anyway - emphasising race is not to our advantage, and one unemphasised word isn't ordinarily going to get the attention of anybody but desperate muckrakers like Guido.

In a constituency with its recent history and where Labour'e perceived threat is from a party that has been furiously playing the race card, it's a crass thing to say at the very least. That's if it wasn't scripted. If it was then it's dog-whistle politics of the worst kind and it's the version that seems more believable.

UKIP leaftet. The interesting thing about this leaflet is that its the first UKIP leaflet I've seen that specifically mentions TTIP

The statement about the nurses makes it sound weirdly like they're planning to exempt certain professions from the higher rate of tax, rather badly written.

Most nurses come nowhere near the 40% tax band, unless they are in management positions related to nursing or have significant extra responsibilities ('specialist nurses').

Yes....I think UKIP are lying on this. Public sector bodies are exempt from TTIP as far as I know. The argument as I have read it is that the 2012 Health and Social Care Act changes the status of the NHS to bring it into the area covered by TTIP/ISDS. It may be argued that isn't the case but the lawyers of various US health related companies will have plenty of reason to beg to differ. I don't see where there is a lie by UKIP on this.

I noticed on the Sunday Politics regional show for the north west that all candidates except the Lib Dem one were wearing rosettes. This was probably a studio direction to aid voter recognition but why do it ?

I don't think I've ever heard a less impressive performance than the Labour candidate on the Sunday Politics show yesterday. At least not until she was even more woeful on the local radio station this morning.
