So will we soon see the Borders Party standing on the other side of the border now?  Don't know how much real competition the Tories have in those big rural seats on the Scottish border so maybe there'd be a niche. The first elected in this ward was an Independent candidate. And his surplus favoured the Borders Party but not by much over LDs and SNP. Conservatives were also in the mix but lost out on transfers. I'd guess that, barring a strong indy, with a decent local candidate the Borders Party could hold here, but it could be a very close scrap. |

Nola Hendon , Conservative councillor for Midhurst on West Sussex CC has announced she will resign her seat on July 31st . I understand that at the present time there is no vacancy in West Sussex, Midhurst. We are now within 2 months of the "six month" rule so possibly any resignation may be delayed until it becomes operative. |

Of the 20 by-elections pending not yet called (excluding West Sussex and Scottish Borders):
* 1 arose in late June
* 2 in the first half of July and 2 in the second half
* 5 in the first half of August and 6 in the second whilst
* 4 arose during the first week of September.
Given this distribution along withy a natural tendancy to delay the contests until 15th November, it looks as though October and early November could be especially light in the number of by-elections.

I have also just found on the council website that there is a vacancy for a councillor in Letchworth South East ward , a Conservative seat reason for vacancy unknown .

The vacant seat in Letchworth South East ward of North Herts District Council was won by Richard Harman (Con) in 2011 - so he is due to retire in 2015.
The Hitchin, Baldock and Letchworth Advertiser reports on its website that someone of the same name and address was in court yesterday charged with an offence committed over 30 years ago.

Inspired me to check out (and Find) a pub there called Maggie Murphy's (albeit now called Castle View) on google street view. Spent a fun Night there in about 1976.
