The Hampstead bye is 27th September according to an email I have seen from the RO. Just after Yom Kippur which is an issue, but Camden say that they try to accede to the defending Party's wishes if practical.

To add to the Betws spelling debate, I checked the texts of the Boundary Commission for Wales Initial Proposals Report in the Welsh and the English versions.
Andrew Teale has identified three wards of this name in Bridgend, Carmarthenshire and Newport. All three are spelt Betws in the Welsh version, where the English version has Betws for Carmarthenshire and Bettws for Bridgend and Newport.
The Welsh dictionary translates Betws as an oratory.

Vacancy in Neath South following the death of the previous Labour councillor. Which Council is that?

Neath Port Talbot. The Neath South ward is of course the central and eastern part of Neath (cf. previous discussion as to why the western and southern part of the town are called Neath East).

What was that Welsh ward where the North ward was a circle that completely surrounded the South ward (or vice versa)?

I understand from Runnymede Council that both by-elections are caused sadly by deaths - Diana Cotty in Chertsey Meads and Chris Knight in New Haw.

The leader of the Borders Party, Nicholas Watson, is to resign his seat of the Leaderdale and Melrose ward of Scottish Borders Council later this year. Mr Watson is moving to Cumbria for business reasons and once he has confirmed arrangements, will formally tender his resignation. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-19423033

Don't know how much real competition the Tories have in those big rural seats on the Scottish border so maybe there'd be a niche.
