Another one:
* Runnymede BC, Chertsey Meads - Vacancy. Appears to be caused by the resignation of Diana Cotty (C) who was first elected in May.

Charles Kennedy EDIA Councillor for Campsie and Kirkintilloch North ward on East Dunbartonshire Council has sadly died . Cllr Kennedy had served on Strathkelvin District Council and then on East Dunbartonshire after reorganisation in 1995/6. He was previously a Labour member but such was his support in the area that he won around 50% of first preferences in both 2007 and 2012. This is the first Scottish by-election of the new councils. I suspect it will be a couple of weeks before a by-election date is announced but it couldn't be before the end of August and has to be by 13 October at the latest. I'd suspect mid September as the most likely time.

Well he got over 50% of first preferences. The question for Lab and SNP is as to whether that is transferrable. They both got just over 20%. I suspect it will be more of a 3 way. If the EDIA candidate makes the last 2 I suspect they then win on transfers.

If the EDIA candidate makes the last 2 I suspect they then win on transfers. That assumes there will be an EDIA candidate - in 2007 they fielded 5 candidates apart from the 2 who got elected. This year they only fielded their two sitting councillors. There might not be anybody to step into the gap for them.

Do we talk about Town Council by-elections on this thread too?
If so, Normanton Town Council, Altofts ward, August 16th. Caused by death of Liberal Democrat Cllr Mike Burch.
Only UKIP & Labour have nominated, as far as I'm aware.
