The problem occurs with stupid politicians! Who apply when the available dates are the two weeks before or after.

In many cases it may be deliberate to request a by-election a week before the main election if one party thinks that a lower turnout will help them.

Of course, let's not forget the lucky voters in Newcastle-under-Lyme who got to vote on their local councillor for two weeks in a row earlier this year.........
Turnout held up quite well for the second contest, considering.

Save possibly for London/Wales/Scotland vacancies, obviously....... Why Wales? They're having PCC elections as well.

It's Chew Valley North. Chew Valley South is slightly less completely safe!

That council need to take down his page or at least come up with something a bit more tasteful than "Not currently an elected councillor".

Matt Palmer , Conservative councillor for Wharfedale ward on Bradford MBC has resigned . For the record, Matt got a new job and has moved - to Jersey (lucky sod) The Conservative candidate will be Jackie Whiteley (who by-election connoiseurs will know and love ). She actually lives in the ward too which is good!

Oh yes of course. Well to be fair I should say I hadn't forgotten that by-election at all - just had forgotten the Conservatiev candidate (if indeed I even knew who she was at the time)

Future byelection arrangements appear to be as under: 15 November - 15 * Conwy CBC, Deganwy (Ind resigned) Pending not yet called - 20 (some are provisionally scheduled for 15 November) * Merthyr Tydfil CBC, Cyfarthfa (Ind resigned 10 July) Which means (if I have my memory correct) we will have had at least four resignation by-elections since the local elections. Why do people stand for the elections then, if they are going to resign less than six months after the elections?

May be they were paper candidates who did not expect to be elected.
