Presumably they think a UKIP MP would cause more problems to the Tories than themselves.

This is a bit of Indy spin - Labour haven't thrown in the towel, they just aren't throwing the Kitchen sink at it. Mind you, a favourable opinion poll would throw a curve ball into the campaign (lots of throwing there).

Sorry, it's an autocorrect thing I set up because some guy keeps trying to advertise his discount kitchens.

As Kris infers, we have to refer to them as k*tchens, or the room of a house where the cooking of food is traditionally done.

By his own admission, only in election threads. And sport threads. But not talking to Tories or fat people Eric Pickles must be gutted!
(not a pretty sight, if you take the literal meaning of that sentence either!!)

Buck up Cogs he has posted dozens of messages. Pay more attention. Hey I havent been on ere for a bit. Busy ya know. Anyway Tory hold. Yes. I know there is a war on. How is it at the front? I think you are correct about a hold especially with the firming in the poll trend; but the UKIP factor is volatile and uncertain!

I think for some in labour its a case of looking at a blue map of Newark and not seeing what could be. Lets look at Devon ward a “old labour stronghold” that cons took in 2007 and labour regained by not a lot in 2011.
Tenure
owners 19%
mort owners 35.5%
p renters 9%
s renters and council 38.2%
class
AB 15.7
C1C2 24.4
DE 54.5 with the rest students
30 miles to the north labour wins this ward with 60%+ not mid 40s as the case is here.

Plenty of places much further south where Labour gets similar results with those demographics. The fact they don't in Newark suggests it's organisational, and that can't necessarily be fixed in the space of a few weeks.

My family had a residence about 100 yards from Devon ward for nearly fifty years, and I can confirm that it is an almighty du .... oops, many apologies, the kind of place that Labour used to win very solidly and should still do now, were it not for long-term weaknesses in mobilising the working class vote in Newark town. Before moving to the southern part of Newark, where Devon is located, we were based in a council estate in Bridge ward in the north of the town - which also 'should' always have been fairly solidly Labour, but has rarely been, with a long tradition of Independents aiming at the working class vote going back to Sam Wilford four and five decades ago and more recently the 'Dawn effect'.

Please stop using ABCDE everyone. The chances of eradicating A, B, C1, C2, D, E now are about as good as the chances of stopping people describe the Security Service as MI5 and the Secret Intelligence Service as MI6 (the official designations which stopped being used many decades ago).

Please stop using ABCDE everyone. Why? Has it changed like Fahrenheit, inches, shillings, ounces and BC/AD? All for no good reason other than pandering to lesser nations wrongnesses.

Sorry mate, my little grammar demon has been running riot in my dyspraxic head and he has made me correct you. Ah, that feels better.

I wouldn't mind so much, but it wasn't even a particularly great reflection of how society was structured in the 1970s, let alone now...
