There are currently 5 by-elections called after 22nd May with another 11 known vacancies although Flintshire, Mostyn will not be called until the result of an appeal over the disqualification is known.

Don Wallace , Lib Dem councillor for Colehill East on East Dorset DC has sadly died .
He was 95 possibly the oldest serving District Councillor .

The picture may also have been relevant. Let me amend my previous remark: I'd be wary of drinking in crap-looking pubs whose names refer to the public display of offensive weapons. Is there actually a pub called the Bucket of Blood? Sounds similarly unappealing to me. The Ship in Lathom, just outside Burscough, was once the Blood Bucket. I wouldn't call that place unappealing. There used to be pubs in Butetown in Cardiff known as The House of Blazes and also The Bucket of Blood - however those were never official names. Have often thought the Pimp and Pusher might be a suitable pub name... |

Anthony Christopher, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taff CBC has died. Vacancy in Aberaman North ward therefore.

Patrick Heesom has - er - 'won' his appeal: www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Admin/2014/1504.htmlSo instead of being disqualified for 2 years 6 months, he will now be disqualified for 18 months (from 19 July 2013). So the vacancy is activated, and there will be a byelection. |

Cllr Peter Starling (Labour, Penistone West, Barnsley) has sadly died. Peter Starling was the agent for Labour's candidate in Penistone West in next week's election. Will the poll be countermanded as when a candidate dies or will the poll proceed with the Labour candidate able to appoint another agent? |

Representation of the People Act 1983 s.70(2)
(2)If—
(a)the person whose name and address have been so given as those of the candidate’s election agent (not being the candidate himself) dies, and
(b)a new appointment is not made on the day of the death or on the following day,the candidate shall be deemed to have appointed himself as from the time of death.
