Sevenoaks Council
Christopher Neal, who held the Cowden and Hever by-election on 29 March 2012 for the Conservatives and subsequently defected to UKIP, has resigned. The six-month rule applies.

There are 4 by-elections called for January 2015, including one for 2 seats, and 2 in February. A further 14 vacancies are known where the election has as yet no date, although up to 9 could remain unfilled as they are to be contested again in May. So far 17 vacancies have been identified as classified under the "six month" rule.
There were 22 by-elections ahead of the main elections in 2011, the same period in the local council election cycle as 2015, which may be a benchmark for the number expected this year.

Wychavon DC, Eldersfield & Somerville - Conservative resigned around 16th December I assume this should be Elmley Castle and Somerville, but I can't find any other information on this.

You are quite right. Resignation was announced at the Council meeting on 16th December according to the minutes. I was thinking about somewhere else through the haze of last night's wine.

I believe there is a vacancy on Charnwood borough council in Thurmaston ward. Ralph Raven, who was elected in August last year in a byelection, died in November. This probably comes under the six months rule.

I believe there is a vacancy on Charnwood borough council in Thurmaston ward. Ralph Raven, who was elected in August last year in a byelection, died in November. This probably comes under the six months rule. There have been a number of instances in the last couple of years where someone elected in a by-election has sadly died shortly afterwards.
