My councillor's allowances would have had to have doubled to approach the median wage. A point I always made whenever somebody got on their high horse and demanded that "politicians should only be paid the average wage". Yes please! Being a councillor is not a job and should not be paid. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Bring in Inspector Harwich of the Yard. With his little dog Tendring of course. Ah! What of the sinister Dr. Parkestone? I think he may be the key to the solution. He got in quite a jam with mademoiselle Tiptree......

Being a councillor is not a job and should not be paid. Let's rewrite that to reflect reality: Only rich people should even consider thinking of entering elected public office. What do you mean? If being a councillor were considered a full time job then, as the wage would have to be low only the rich, the very poor or the retired would be able to stand. You'd exclude in fact nearly all council tax payers. As it is being a councillor isn't a job, full or part time, so that's all right.

I have just spoken to the elections office at Rotherham, They are not aware of a by-election pending in Silverwood ward. It seems that Roger Stone has resigned as Leader, but retains his council seat. He disappeared from the list of councillors, but reappeared again by Friday. It looks as if the intention of Roger Stone to resign his seat was held over until the "6 month" rule applied as the vacancy is now officially listed? link

Cllr Kenny Murray (Ind: Sgir' an Taobh Siar agus Nis, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar) has sadly passed away. For those without the Gaelic, that's West side [of Lewis] and Ness ward on Western Isles Council.

Oh I do hope we have party nominees for Sgir' an Taobh Siar agus Nis. The SNP contested the ward in 2012 winning 1 of the 4 seats, so its possible.

Dartford Council have removed Peter Cannon, the Conservative member for Brent ward, from their website. Apparently his resignation was announced at the council meeting on 15 December. The six-month rule applies.
This is rather puzzling, as a google search led to announcement on the Dartford Conservatives website, dated 13 May 2014, that he had been selected to fight the safe Conservative ward of Joydens Wood in May 2015.
