Half the Northumberland wards just seem to be impossible to fill in, whether you do it individually or use the square tool. I had the same problem with one of the Bangor Gwynedd wards...cant remember which one it was..

Could someone tell me please how I copy and keep the maps that I have produced on boundary assistant please? Is it simply a case of doing a screen shot?

Bear with me on this, I think I know what is causing the problem but it will take a while to fix. Seems to be working now. The initial ward upload for England was missing one ward due to the BCE spreadsheet that showed the constituency breakdown having a duplicate ward code. Fixing that threw everything else in Northumberland out of sequence.

I am sure that the Boundary Commission already has software that it uses internally to design constituencies. That doesn't mean that it can easily be converted into a webapp being used by thousands of people. They already had software in 2004 or whatever year it was when I visited them at their offices in Westminster, though it was of limited functionality. I think it's a ridiculous argument, that an online tool is not worth providing because it's only used by a few nerds. Its use would spread considerably as it became more widely known. North American elections departments get much more voter involvement in the process when they provide online tools.

I remember back at the beginning of the last, aborted review, a lot of us were looking for something to make the job easier. I got the Commission to send me the shapefiles disk that they made available free of charge, and I did make a start (see ukelect.wordpress.com/category/maps/ ) but my main problem was that I don't have computers that are powerful enough to make progress with this sort of project. Via Twitter (I think) I discovered that a guy (Lancaster way?) was developing a tool, and he sent me the prototype, and it was very good. He was enquiring with Rowntree Foundation etc about funding. But then along came the mysterious wonder of the Plan Builder!

Slightly annoying that North Tyneside constituency is described as "Tyneside North".

Wonderful gadget. Thank you thank you thank you. Why did nobody tell me about it during the last review?
So where on this pc does it store my plan, though? I use more than one computer and some of these are public; I'd like to store my files on a stick, as in DRA. But for that I need to find them first...

Slightly annoying that North Tyneside constituency is described as "Tyneside North". During the general election results I wish at least one RO had said something like "This is the declaration for the South Thanet constituency. Not [quotation fingers] 'Thanet South' despite what certain media organisations may have said."

Just discovered this, absolutely brilliant! It's rather fun drawing up the most utterly, unrepentantly dreadful electoral boundaries that one can think of. Come to think about, I really ought to save up some of the abominations I've drawn up and post them to the Pitchfork Bait thread.

I seem to have hit a technical snag with Boundary Assistant: can anyone help?
On my home computer, I access the site via Safari (it doesn't seem to like Firefox). But my saved plan for Scotland won't load properly - the loading never completes, and what does appear is garbled with a substantial number of wards incorrectly assigned.
On another computer I have access to, using Google Chrome, my Scotland plan loads fine but my South East plan refuses to load at all even though I've repeatedly resaved it.
Any suggestions welcome.

Because Plan Builder is a great tool for creating plans but not (yet) designed for presenting them, I've decided to relearn the basics of GIS mapping. It's not too hard providing you pick the right software - QGIS seems very good. I downloaded Boundary Line from the OS website, and Strategi for the background map. Though I haven't worked out how to get Strategi to display in the professional-looking way that's displayed on the OS website, it's okay in the basic form, and you can add or take away roads, railways, rivers, text, etc. depending on how much info you want or how cluttered it looks.
I present: Sutton Coldfield BC 73,172
Just another 599 to go...

Playing around with another possible map for Coventry and Warwickshire, and I don't seem to be able to add Brailes and Compton ward (Stratford upon Avon council) to my plan.
