Yes, Toulouse goes UMP. Bayrou takes Pau. Chevenement's fief of Belfort goes UMP. Saint Etienne also heads right, to my surprise. Paris stays PS.
Toulouse and many of the traditional anti-clerical belt have gone to the UMP. Limoges as mentioned is a real surprise. The northern shitholes of Roubaix and Tourcoing have gone UMP too.
Rumours that the Lille conurbation will go UMP, despite Martine Aubry winning her dad's inheritance again.

Good news for those of all political persuasions. Former Mitterrand minister and criminal, Jacques Mellick, loses in Bethune. The PS refused to allow him their support.

Apparently Manuel Valls says 14 mayoralties at least have gone FN. I see that the article I linked to there has now been updated and now lists Mantes-la-Ville 30.26% as well as three towns won by the League of the South Camaret-sur-Aigues 36.61% Orange 59.82% (1st round) Bollène 55.35% so possibly that's the 14 being referred to

Taken back Aubervilliers as well as Montreuil. They are still clearly not in a good state, but they aren't exactly dead. It's a strange thing. The result in Montreuil means that Brard is not back in charge, which is a very welcome bit of news...

Not an easy graph to follow a simpler line graph or a bar chart might be easier to understand.

I will not flinch from the fact that President Hollande and the PS did badly and that both the UMP and the FN did well, the latter confounding the pundits who thought they would win so many towns as they did.
Why? The classic excuse of any Party in Government which is punished by the electorate in Local Elections is "It is a Mid-Term protest". That MAY be true but I will not use it as a get out. I feel that Hollande's equivocation and seeming to flirt with the Anglo-Saxon Austerity Paradigm will have scared off some normally PS voters and that he should now return to a more Socialist course. A Reshuffle and a new PM would also be beneficial at this time.
