I have as little liking for the PCF as I do for the UMP. I am NOT a Communist.

Sadly, the incoming mayor of Vibrac, Philippe Sauty, is reported to have taken his own life.

Yeah, Limoges looks gone. PS controlled since 1956 and left controlled (except for you know) since 1912.

My party the PS taking the expected bath from what I can see so far BUT glad that FN NOT doing as well as expected to be the case last Sunday after the First Round no doubt owing to pacts between the major parties to thwart them.
As I said last week Election Programmes do NOT have the same excitement as in the UK, all talking heads making excuses, no Peter Snow graphics, and no cut over to counts, and there were no activists for any party outside my Polling Station today as was also the case last week. I do not suppose they do Telling or Knock-up here. There again I live in a quiet suburb and not in the big City of Toulouse itself where things may have been more exciting.

Paris looks likely to be held, but then the UMP candidate is entirely, absolutely and in all respects unelectable.

Three Paris area results to look out for: Bobigny: the PCF have won every municipal election here since 1919, but the total Right vote in the first round was 54.9%. This in a suburb where 70% of first round votes in the 2012 Presidential election went to candidates of the Left... Montreuil: longtime Mayor Jean-Pierre Brard (once of the PCF) was sensationally defeated by the Greens here last time as voters tired of his autocratic ways and overt racism. The Greens made a hash of running the place, and now Brard is back. And in a ridiculous FOUR WAY runoff. Villeneuve-Saint-Georges: the mainstream Right and FN lists have merged here in an attempt to oust the PCF incumbent (elected by a split right vote in 2008). Total Left vote in the first round was 42% It looks like Bobigny to UDI Montreuil: Bessac leading Brard by 60 votes but count still underway PCF by 30 votes in Villenueve.
