You might remember that David Steel accepted an invitation from an Italian Liberal party to stand in the 1989 European elections (he was not elected). One example of amazing stupidity and ignorance was that when that happened, and I told someone about it, they responded by saying “I didn’t know David Steel could speak Italian”

Sir Graham Watson, Liberal Democrats to the Stati Uniti d'Europa coalition in Italy. I would presume that this is not a defection and that he remains "in good standing" with the UK LDs. (Wikipedia informs me that Watson is also an Italian citizen and that his wife is Italian) You might remember that David Steel accepted an invitation from an Italian Liberal party to stand in the 1989 European elections (he was not elected). It was mentioned in an episode of "The New Statesman" when Sir Greville reminds Alan B'Stard that within the EU, any candidate from any EU member state could stand for office in any EU member state.

Daniel Cohn-Bendit, Green MEP, rioter and pervert, represented both France and Germany.
There's a bloke called Derk Eppink who has been a MEP in both Belgium and the Netherlands.

Wasn't it the Radicals? I think they were trying to make a more European than thou point. PRI-PLI and some Radicals had a joint list in 1989 European elections. Something called Liberal Republicans Federalists which ended up electing Jas Gawronski, Giorgio La Malfa and Marco Pannella.

Giulietto Chiesa, who was an MEP for NW Italy in the 2004-9 term, decided to defend his seat in Latvia, standing for the pro-Russia ЗаПЧЕЛ/PCTVL but was not elected.
