they can only do that if people apply. I do think this will be a fair fight because all had too much respect for Googins to do anything else.

so whatever people may say these are local candidates and hardly a stitch up then You were saying only a few days ago in this thread that Rosa Battle was a 'shoe in' because of the 'connections' explained by David.

Didn't see much today around the constituency apart from the tribute leaflet put out by Labour. UKIP candidate will be revealed on Thursday. Do you already know who it is? Yes. Also, Martin Eakins is now living in Brighton so I don't think he will be going for it.

Chris, why the secret on who it is ?
Normally once a selection has happened we get to hear about it usually within an hour.

Back in 2010 when I was a paper candidate for a council seat, the Tory parliamentary candidate was Janet Clowes- a nice woman, and a good campaigner. But- not sure she'd be back for a by-election, and she was...let's say...a bit posh for this seat, I think. Although had a common touch. I suspect the Tory candidate won't be a local councillor. Any Libs here know who will be selected for them? Eakins again maybe? I've been gone nearly two years now and am a bit out of touch. Janet's a good egg, but you're right, she's very "Cheshire". The WySECA guys are a hardy bunch and there's a few of them who would make solid candidates.

I assume that you aren't taking Toby Young's "advice" to withdraw in favour of UKIP, then??

I assume that you aren't taking Toby Young's "advice" to withdraw in favour of UKIP, then?? He will look pretty silly if we beat UKIP - which IMHO we should do. (Mind you he will still look pretty silly even if they beat us.)

The result is going to be declared on Valentines Day. What odds on UKIP Declaring an openly gay candidate , preferably a weather forecaster ?

Has Loz Kaye indicated if he's going to turn up here? Or to put the same question another way, is there any other member of the Pirate Party allowed to stand for election in and around Manchester?

First candidate announced - John Bickley for UKIP Although I'm not a UKIP supporter, I think it's a shame that it's not Chris Cassidy.

Two things particularly interest me in W&SE: 1. What will happen to the Lib Dems? There is a Lib Dem hardcore there in my experience, mainly in Northern Moor. 2. What will happen to the Tory vote? There's a bit of a Tory Worker vote still out there in Northenden, and some rather swish streets on one side of the motorway.

Doubt they will fear a carpetbagging independent standing against something that has rather little to do with the locals.
