That article is a storm in a tea cup! The local chairman (Who is actually the Chairman of Trafford - but is minding Wythenshawe!)was determined to have the candidate pre-selected before the hustings. So as he's been reminded of the rules, he's kicked up a fuss!

Seems like he was given a good send from all yesterday, RIP Paul a good man.
OK onto this, the result at Trafford should be a warning for UKIP that simply in some parts of the country they do not have the reach. In my view Chris after all his work fully deserves a chance at an high profile election and it should be an easy selection for you.
Any whispers on who will be in the frame for Labour ?

More than likely when it is said Labour have this one in the bag they mean the postal bag. If they want to reform voting then the removal of postal votes should be included. It should be mandatory voting in person with ID on the day. Quite agree Entirely disagree. In fact I'd do as much as possible to get more people to vote which means making it as simple and as diverse in terms of methods as possible. Online voting, for a start.

Interesting that Louise Bours, when in Brookside, was known as Louise van der Bours. That sounds awfully Dutch. Perhaps encoursgement to 'go home' only applies to people UKIP don't approve of.

Also, postal votes for this constituency is 23,000+. More than likely when it is said Labour have this one in the bag they mean the postal bag. If they want to reform voting then the removal of postal votes should be included. It should be mandatory voting in person with ID on the day. You'd be making it significantly more difficult for the elderly to vote. There's also a non-negligible effect upon those working long shifts or travelling for business. One suspects Labour will win the postals, because we're dominant in the constituency and presumably also much better organised than anybody else. But it's deeply unlikely there's anything dodgy about the postals - look at the demographics of the seat.

Ignoring that pathetic comment, what character did she play in Brookside? I can't place her at all and Google isn't bringing up anything

Her father is Dutch and she has a fairly long history in elective politics, having been a Conservative councillor in Congleton and, I think, the mayor sometime in the last few years.

All this free movement between European countries really ought to stop. Wonder why she stopped the 'van der...'. Mind you, surely Farage should be pronounced in Anglo-Saxon with the accent on the first syllable, not the rather Frenchified 'Far-aaaaaaage'?

A tweet from a Labour person
Ian @mancman10 It appears that UKIP's Paul Nuttal has noted Labour crushing UKIP in Broadheath(Trafford) last night&won't stand in Wythenshawe&Sale East

Paul was never going to stand in Wythenshawe. And a +3% for UKIP isn't anywhere near bad in a ward we've never put much resources into.

Paul Nuttall would be a dreadful candidate for this seat.

A tweet from a Labour person Ian @mancman10 It appears that UKIP's Paul Nuttal has noted Labour crushing UKIP in Broadheath(Trafford) last night&won't stand in Wythenshawe&Sale East Labour did not crush us for two reasons:- 1) It is the electorate and not the Labour party that delivers the verdict. 2) Our proportion of the vote went up slightly. So, do please keep on crushing us to permit a nice slow steady growth. That's my sort of encrushment.

Manchester Evening News quoting "it is believed" and "sources close" to say:
*Polling day likely to be 13 February
For Labour -
"The current front-runner appears to be Manchester council’s culture chief, Rosa Battle. The councillor, who lives in Baguley, has run for selection before and is ambitious to reach Westminster.
Meanwhile Mike Kane, once aide to former minister and Tameside MP James Purnell, is also understood to be interested, along with Fallowfield councillor Mike Amesbury"
