Can I request that people refrain from editing their posts? While I appreciate the people like middleenglander who post long posts, and try to adhere to my rule of "never complain about free stuff", if I spend time going through a long post in order to make sure my own records are up to date, and then the long post is edited, I then have to go through the whole long post again to find what's changed... it would be better if the change had just been posted as a separate post.

The West Lindsey Scotter contest on 27th is a straight contest between Con and Lib Dem , surprisingly UKIP have given up in this ward .

A question primarily for David Boothroyd but others may know the answer. How many elections can be held on the same day for the same electors?
On May 22nd we have the European elections plus the normal May elections in London, the Metropolitans and some district and Unitaries. Could there also be a County Council by-election, for example, within one of the District Councils.
Next year we have the General Election along with widespread District and Unitary elections. Could Parish / Town Council elections be held on the same day?

Yes, to both. As an inverse of the first scenario, last year in Worthing we had a district by-election the same day as the normal county elections; and the parish elections in neighbouring Adur are always on the same day as district elections

I seem to remember reading some legislation somewhere that if a General Election is called for the day a parish council election is scheduled to take place, the parish council election is postponed. I'll have to go browsing the HMG online legislation archive again.

Can confirm that rule was abolished in November last year. Our Town Clerk pointed this out at a council meeting only last week. There is no actual limit to the number of elections that can be held on the same day - indeed if positive action had not been taken to postpone them, we would have had the devolved assemblies next year as well!

In theory you could have MP, MEP, County Councillor, District Councillor, Parish Councillor, Police Commissioner and Elected Mayor all on the same day.

You can add to that referenda on neighbourhood plans. We are in the middle of drawing our plan up and once it passes an independent assessment, it has to go to a ballot. We would prefer it to be held separately to local and general elections, but may be forced into it to keep costs down.

Ludlow North, Shropshire, Rosanna Taylor-Smith (Con) resigned as she's moved to Kent. Good; she's awful. Is she taking her equally awful husband with her? This is the bit of Ludlow that people not familiar with the area associate with Ludlow (morons in red trousers, overpriced food and all that), as opposed to the other two Ludlow divisions, which include people with actual Ludlow accents (and in the case of Ludlow East, a considerable amount drugs and deprivation). 2009 results: Con 43.8, LDem 31.9, Ind Con 13.2, Green 7.6, BNP 3.4 2013 results: Con 40.4, LDem 33.6, UKIP 10.1, Labour 8.7, Green 5.5, Ind 1.7 Should be a lot of fun, because Ludlow is insane. Oh, and results in the other Ludlow divisions, for the hell of it: South 2009: Con 50.1, LDem 49.9 2013: LDem 47.2, Con 30.6, Ind Con 13.4, UKIP 8.8 East 2009: LDem 52.1, Con 30.5, BNP 8.8, Labour 8.5 2013: LDem 50.5, Con 22.7, Labour 19.9, Green 6.9

Wendy Langham, Labour member for Hobbayne in the London Borough of Ealing, has resigned. The six-month rule applies. According to press reports, there had been a series of calls from the opposition for her to resign because of thin attendance and subsequent criticism that she waited for the six-month rule to kick in.
