There were 21 principal local authority by-elections scheduled during December although the Conservatives retained one seat unopposed leaving 20 contests: * 8 on 5th December * 3 on 12th December * 9 on 19th December
9 are within District Councils, 7 last contested in 2011, 1 in 2012 and 1 where there was a by-election in 2012 3 in Metropolitan Boroughs which have elections 3 years in 4 3 for County Council Division elected earlier this year in May 3 for Welsh Councils and 2 in Scottish Councils last elected in 2012.
Labour are defending 9 seats, 5 following the death of the former Councillor, 3 resignations and 1 disqualification for non-attendance Conservatives are defending 8 seats, 6 from a death, 1 a resignation and 1 disqualification after a long term illness Lib Dems defend 1 seat following a resignation whilst Independents and a Resident Association each defend 1 seat following a death.
Conservatives are contesting 20 seats, Labour 15, Lib Dems 14 with UKIP 19, Greens 8 and Independents having 10 candidates in 7 seats SNP, Plaid Cymru, BNP & English Democrats each have 2 candidates, TUSAC are contesting 7 whilst there are resident groups in Chelmsford, Dartford & Lincolnshire and single candidates for Britannica, Christian, Communist, Liberal, No Bedroom Tax, Pirate, Scottish Democratic Alliance, Scottish Socialist and No Description a total of 113 candidates or an average of around 5½ per seat.
Predictions on this thread by 9.00 am on day of election.
There are 12 candidates in Glasgow Shettleston on 5th December. As for the Glasgow, Govan election, I propose predictions for Conservative, Labour, Lib Dems, SNP, UKIP, Green and No Bedroom Tax with the remaining 5 (Britannica, Christian, Democratic Alliance, Socialist and TUSAC) combined to give effectively 8 candidates.

Can't blame the computer this time - out late last night and then called out this morning. Just had a paddling pool fly out in front of me whilst driving, which begs the question: who has a paddling pool pumped up and outside in December?

Our condolences and deep sympathy ME coupled with profound respect for your diligence to duty. As new boy to this thread will you direct me to where I can look at rules, scoring system and 'faults' please. Basically your score is the sum of the differences between your prediction and the actual results. For example Prediction - Con 40, Lab 35, LD 25 Actual - Con 44, Lab 29, LD 27 Score would be (44-40) + (35-29) + (27-25) = 4+6+2 = 12 faults. In addition you receive an extra 10 faults if you predict the wrong winner.
