The Winsford result rather confirms what I have been thinking for some weeks, based on results, that is, at Town Council level, Lib Dems are doing really rather well. This contrasts, of course, with pretty disastrous results at principal councils. Can any of our well-informed analysts here cast any light on this? I wondered whether a number of successful candidates are former, defeated, and perhaps well-known principal councillors, of whom there must be many around! I suspect it may stem from the Lib Dems being more inclined to take town council elections seriously than are the other parties, as a general rule. Elm and Christchurch Con 301 UKIP 234 Ind 73 Lab 51 LD 27 Not actually a terribly good UKIP result, considering they had the only local candidate. Though they won the county division that covers half the ward in May, I wonder if they were hampered by who they won it with. Surely in a rural division being a local worthy would have more pull? But in rural county divisions the communities are so many that it's difficult to be a worthy in all of them. My point was that for the size of the win it can't have all come from being a local worthy, but it might have something to do with the fact he was the only local... The Scotter district result will be a pointer to that (the Indy's the only local). It's only made up of two small district wards. It's easily small enough for somebody to be a local worthy across the whole area - particularly in Lincolnshire, where very few of the villages are self-sufficient enough to be sui generis.

Shouldn't take too long to get the first preferences done then. But I doubt we have a correpondent at the count (will watch FB) so may have to wait for longer assuming it is likely to go to transfers.
