The Winsford result rather confirms what I have been thinking for some weeks, based on results, that is, at Town Council level, Lib Dems are doing really rather well. This contrasts, of course, with pretty disastrous results at principal councils. Can any of our well-informed analysts here cast any light on this? I wondered whether a number of successful candidates are former, defeated, and perhaps well-known principal councillors, of whom there must be many around!

Just a good team working hard and a good candidate.

Lincs County Council - Scotter Rural Lib dem 726 con 348 UKIP 264 ind 137 That's an interesting and rather satisfying result! One rather thinks Gainsborough Lib Dems have dusted themselves down, pulled their socks up and got on with it after the rather awful results in May. I would presume the Lib Dem candidate was some kind of local worthy but in a rural division that wouldn't have the pull across it to win this big by accident.

Surely in a rural division being a local worthy would have more pull? Particularly when the other main contestants come from well outside the Division.

Surely in a rural division being a local worthy would have more pull? But in rural county divisions the communities are so many that it's difficult to be a worthy in all of them. My point was that for the size of the win it can't have all come from being a local worthy, but it might have something to do with the fact he was the only local... The Scotter district result will be a pointer to that (the Indy's the only local).
