Must be unusual to have two by-elections in such quick succession as in Ancoats When I saw it on the list I assumed it was a mistake given the previous byelection had only just happened. But it is just bad luck that Mike Carmody died a few days before the byelection to replace Jim Battle happened on 10 October.

Richard Lees, the Independent candidate in Dartford (Swanscombe), was the Swanscombe and Greenhithe Residents Association county councillor for Swanscombe and Greenhithe on Kent County Council from 2009 to 2013. He did not stand again for the county council this year. He was apparently deselected, for reasons I know not. Vic Openshaw is also a former councillor for the SGRA, who lost his borough seat in Greenhithe in 2011. Steve Doran is a previous mayoress of Dartford (IIRC she is Conservative councillor Dave Hammock's niece. Either way, she was mayoress when Dave was Mayor).

Must be unusual to have two by-elections in such quick succession as in Ancoats The Baillieston ward in Glasgow (incidentally next door to Shettleston) was part of the Glasgow East by-election on 24 July 2008, then had a local by-election on 18 September 2008 to replace John Mason who had been elected MP, followed by another local by-election on 6 November 2008 following the death of a Labour Cllr. Three by-elections within 15 weeks!
