I hear that Farage actually paid a visit, so UKIP were evidently taking it seriously......

He did. I believe he also told one of the fringe meetings he attended that they were going to win.
(Incidentally, "fringe" meeting seems a very apt description of an event with Nigel Farage)

Thats pretty emphatic - presumably some kind of personal vote for the candidate at play here? I would guess so. I would also guess that the previous LD figure included a fair size personal vote for Catriona Bhatia, so not that surprising their vote is down.

Odd isn't it that we have article after article pontificated why the Tories and by association the Liberal Democrats are struggling in the north and then you have comments like "says a lot about Glasgow". Until the parties understand the causes of poverty and don't go for the simple option keep writing them. Glasgow is in the south from my point of view. Me too. Deep south.

Tracey Cheetham @tchee Delighted that Caroline Makinson has been elected Labour Cllr for Royston Ward, Barnsley. Lab 1143, UKIP 393, Tory 100, BNP 28, Eng Dem 32 English Democrats beat BNP by four votes. Cromwell isn't going to be happy... I don't think either of them should be happy with that...

There was a Liberal Party member called Catherine Twelvetrees - I always thought she should stand for Sevenoaks. That would have been the best campaign slogan since "Hooley for Heeley". "Allan for Hallam" "Clayton for Beighton" (a ward in Sheffield)

Generally a very nice set of results for us - shame about N Yorks, but maybe the Labour candidate's injudicious tweeting didn't help him there When will people ever learn?

Con eliminated: 23 to No Bedroom Tax Ooookay then. In all probablity not all (or even most) of those voted Conservative first preference, but any studying of STV results in Scotland shows that transfers go anywhere and everywhere.

Con eliminated: 23 to No Bedroom Tax Ooookay then. Won't some of those be votes that transfered to the Tory from another candidate in an earlier transfer?

If only they'd called themselves "No spare room subsidy abolition" they'd have got all the Tory votes.

Glasgow is in the south from my point of view. Me too. Deep south. When I was at home in Orkney I happily described Fraser's part of the World as the South. I would slightly tongue in cheek note that Carlton's patch is south of Sutherland.
