He's also one who I'm sure would have been whole-heartedly behind your favourite policy announcement of Gordon Brown given that he once suggested accommodating children for poor school attendance!

This was the shortlist that was issued on monday and cancelled on Tuesday for open list, short gender war, and will probably be the shortlist issued tomorrow. Pound to a penny these three names will be on the list. I repeat - how can a shortlist have been issued on Monday, when it was Monday that Bill Walker resigned? That may have been the shortlist drawn up by the newspapers - but not the Labour party. Somebody told me. Edit, in fact selection process started as soon as the guilty verdict came through. Now this is normal here in fife, the rigged Glenrothes selection process was unofficialy started by Labour before John died, and the SNP had already completed the process and selected Peter Grant before Johns sad death. that's Fife.

Looks like Fife Greens are asking for nominations for anybody who might be interested in being a candidate, and will decide next week whether they will be standing anyone, so hopefully we might have a candidate who will doubtless continue our proud tradition of parliamentary by-election success If we decide to field a candidate at the meeting next week, then the selection process will immediately follow as long as at least one potential candidate has come forward. As I'm once again part of the Fife Greens, I'll be there.

'Tempted' is perhaps not quite the right word... I'm aware of at least one non-Fife member who has expressed a willingness to stand. It also wouldn't surprise me if some of the usual suspects from Edinburgh were to come forward for this, given where Dunfermline is.

Shouldn't this seat really be called Edinburgh North North West? Well, from a Green perspective, it's fair to say that most of our Edinburgh members are more 'local' to Dunfermline than most of our Fife members are.

I'm exaggerating but there have almost been more Labour politicians visiting Dunfermline today than Donside in the whole campaign!
Johan Lamont Iain Gray Ken McIntosh Sarah Boyack Neil Findlay Jayne Baxter Margaret McCulloch Mary Fee Elaine Murray Anne McTaggart Lewis McDonald Richard Baker
Anas Sarwar Margaret Curran Thomas Docharty Ann Begg Willie Bain Fiona O'Donnell Ian McKenzie
Cathrine Stihler
and that's only the ones I spotted in pics or on twitter.

Many of them are either local to Fife, or have to travel through on their way home. The seats proximity to Edinburgh makes it easy to pop over for a door knocking session and be back in parliament for lunch.

Scotsman reports that those left in the race for Labour nomination are: Cara Hilton Lesley Laird Fiona Yates Tom McInally Ewan Aitken The final shortlist will be drawn up by a SEC panel today. The 3 women have already been interviewed last weekend. The 2 men will be interviewed today. It's pretty chaotic tbh! www.scotsman.com/news/politics/top-stories/bill-walker-by-election-final-five-revealed-1-3093447johnr: could you ask something to SEC members you know? 1) Was there a shortlist already in place? 2 ) Or just a long-list? 3) If it was, was it because the selection already started ahead of 2016 when Walker resigned and then the by-election modified the rules? The only logical explanation I can come up with given the bits included in the press reports is that they were selecting from an AWS for 2016, then Walker resigned when the process wasn't finished, by-elections require open shortlists and so they had to re-open nominations to allow men applying, they decided not to re-interview women who were already tested 7 days ago but just the new men before drawing a final shortlist (which can contain only women if they want just like the NEC did for Rotherham by-election). But it's just a guess. I would like confirmation of the procedure followed. Some SEC members sound pretty confused as well!

Jimboo's prediction, final final final shortlist Cara Hilton Lesley Laird Fiona Yates The winner being whoever complies with the Friend of Gordon rule used by Fife labour. You don't even have to be a Labour party activist, even a member, to be selected, the FOG rule has primacy. Now will Ms Marwick's ambitious son be the SNP candidate though I would like one of the old time Nat lefties that are still hanging in there. But as thhey are men and they will select a woman lets go for Shirley-Anne Somerville.

Tom McInally: Been informed-Labour Party will 'not be adding' to the Dunfermline shortlist. Shortlist interview canceled.

But didn't johnr insist no such shortlist existed? Presumably as there is no shortlist, and no-one can be added to the shortlist, Labour will be not be contesting this by-election?
