I am in favour of serious parties (those that aim to win administrative power either locally or nationally)
1) fighting to win 2) putting up a show so people have heard from them even if they can't do 10 3) putting up a candidate without work if they don't have the ability to do 20
That doesn't stop me wincing at very poor results.

As an opponent but also an agent over the years don't be negative about your role. Someone must do the legal side, parties need agents.

Quite some win in Torrington for the Greens! I hope it's as a result of serious campaigning, and that Catherine is less surprised than we are...
I note that in the prediction competition, no one had the Greens higher than about 14%, and nearly everyone put her last

Torrington, TORRIDGE DC Catherine SIMMONS - GREEN 292 Robin JULIAN - UKIP 181 David COX - IND 160 Adrian FREELAND - IND 106 Phil PESTER - CON 88 TURNOUT 19.3% GREEN GAIN FROM LIB DEM I was only the agent for legal purposes, I don't want any credit for the campaign as I didn't run it! This will have upset the prediction sompetition. Cathrine (spelt without an 'e' in the middle) is a town councillor in Torrington and well-known locally. I had heard from my Devon colleagues that they were quietly confident, but didn't want to raise expectations here, especially given that we hadn't stood here last time and had come last before that. I don't have local knowledge about why the Lib Dem stood as an Independent and whether this particularly affected his campaign. Would be interested to hear from anyone who knows. We now have 2 councillors on Torridge DC and stand a good chance to build on that in 2015.

Looking at the result in Wadebridge last night, the Indy vote that the previous councillor and the second candidate got seemed mostly to go to the sole indy this time plus some appeared to switch to the tory. The LD win seems to have come from the Labour vote which collapsed. UKIP held their own at about 15%.
I know the Tories will be disappointed as they had put a lot of work into this seat. The Conservative PPC for North Cornwall is the current councillor for the the Wadebridge West division next door and they desparately wanted to inflict a defeat on the LDs who share control of the Council. Labour appeared to be resigned to their fate quite some time ago. UKIP have not really made any more inroads so far from May. The interesting thing will now be to see if the LDs changed their tack inside the Council and whether the Tories continue to be as tetchy as they have been so far.
