Some information on the Weaste & Seedley candidates:

Mary Ferrer (Green) is the former LD Councillor for the next-door Claremont ward. She lost her seat in 2010, failed to regain it in 2011, and stood as a LD in Weaste & Seedley in 2012. Her proposer is John Deas, a former LD Councillor for this ward.

Adam Kennaugh (Conservative) is the only candidate who lives in the ward. One of the independents is a couple of streets out. UKIP, Labour and TUSC candidates come from particularly far away.

Wilson (Labour) is the son of one of the current ward Councillors. He lives in Swinton.

Someone should ensure that Weaste and Seedley is redrawn next time to bring the Avenues called Orme, Odessa,
Ormonde, Otranto and Orama into the ward already incorporating Ovietto, Oakland and Orlanda....

With their current profile and poll ratings, UKIP should win the race for 2nd place quite easily.

It is certainly possible that this could happen.

However it's hard to predict how UKIP will do around here, given that they have not contested the seat before, their performance in past local elections in Salford has been limited to a decent performance in a couple of other wards and that there are quite a few candidates standing which could gain votes instead of UKIP. Due to the sheer number of candidates, UKIP are not guaranteed the votes of those who are unhappy with the big three by any means.

Salford is not Rotherham, and just because UKIP are the main party of choice in other areas for those unhappy with the main political parties does not mean that this is the case in Salford.

Bletchley and Fenny Stratford By election will be a close run thing. Labour won the seat in 2012 by only 43 votes from the conservatives. 4 candidates have all contested seats in Milton Keynes before . Only the green party candidate is a newcomer.
The real unknown is how UKIP will do. THey have come 3rd on 10% before and I would in the current climate expect them to improve on that. Will be interesting on Friday morning.

Sit rep, Weaste & Seedley.

Labour - two full deliveries, letters to postal voters, and by my count must be on their third canvass. How the other half live...
Conservative - one full delivery, two partial deliveries, postal voter letter, as much canvassing as we could manage
UKIP - one election address only
Green - two full deliveries as far as I can tell, although their leaflet quality is atrocious
TUSC - they have been leafleting, but not sure how far across the ward they've managed
BNP - sporadic leafleting activity across the ward
Independent (Simpson) - has a very odd leaflet circulating with a Chinese proverb on it. Not sure how many he's delivered - probably not many, looks like he ran them off on his personal printer
Independent (Valentine) - nothing, as far as I can tell
Liberal Democrat - nothing. Wouldn't be surprised if they finished 5th or lower, extraordinary in a ward where they held all 3 Councillors until 2010.

Interesting that both the Green candidate and their proposer were extremely recent Lib Dem councillors. Are they nakedly acting as entryists?
