Does anyone know anything about Watlington? Very strange candidate lists there. I do know the Lib Dems had selected a candidate and ALDC lists a contact name/phone number but do not know why nominations were not submitted .

Oh dear. The council website says Watlington will be counted at 9:30 tomorrow. Kirklees says ' results will be available on 14th June, so hopefully they are counting tonight. Can't find anything about Woolston so I would assume they're counting tonight, as still seems usual for by-elections.

There's a 26.48% turnout in Woolston.
"More than expected" according to political reporter of the Southern Daily Echo.

David beat me to it. Not good for the Tories(again), though we haven't got the numbers yet

Here's the full Woolston result and it becomes clear it was a narrow escape for Labour, not a massive victory:
Christopher Hammond (Labour) 864 John Sharp (UK Independence Party) 741 Alex Houghton (Conservative) 704 Sue Atkins (Trade Unionists and Socialists Against Cuts) 136 Adrian Ford (Liberal Democrats) 120 Christopher Bluemel (Green Party) 107

Interesting. So not actually too bad for the Tories at all - looks like UKIP's advance is more at Labour expense and this is one of only 2 wards Labour held in 2008

Indeed a narrow escape although I'm very surprised that the Tories did so well in their weakest ward in Southampton.

I was thinking before that until now the Tories had held up reasonably in Woolston, compared to similar wards in other areas, and had done better in 2011 and 2012 in Itchen than Test. Perhaps they have now decided that Itchen(which I believe includes Woolston) is the better area for them to put the work in to.

Remembering which Southampton seat is which is easy. Test is the west one.

If anyone should be worried it is Labour their vote was down substantially.

For Labour in particular the circumstances were uniquely difficult. It may not be a sign of general problems so much as a comment on the Richard Williams situation.
