I personally regard the result a disappointment for TUSC, given the circumstances of the election, but to hear some of the comments made by TUSC supporters, it was a great result and everything is rosy

That's a very good result in Kirklees. I don't think Labour have ever won that ward on the current boundaries. The ward appears to be a successor to the old Spen ward, which was a Labour hold in 98, plus a bit that used to be in Heckmondwike( but not Heckmondwike itself). So yes it is your first win on these boundaries, but I'm pretty sure you would have won it several times before had it existed. Well, I lived there for six years in the late 80's and early 90's where we started to win the Spen Valley wards - we had a very good local councillor here called Allison Harrison. However, the boundary changes made Heckmondwike easier for us but this one a lot harder, and its now a Tory ward in an even year

Well compared to most of their recent results, to get 5% rather than 5 votes is actually quite good

I think low expectations, limited ambitions and a certain amount of complacency are a part of it.

I think there is almost a feeling amongst *some* far-leftists that getting too many votes compromises their moral purity.....

Those who think TUSC are getting too successful could always blow the dust off "Campaign for a New Workers Party".
