I'm not familiar with the details of the process in Scotland. Has the RO already pressed the starter for the second by-election or is there time to add this seat?

Edinburgh: LD 2683 Con 1454 Lab 1441 SNP 800 Grn 393 Ref 268 Wilkinson 173 Henry 57 SFP 51 Brown 50 Bob 22 Libertarian 9 Spence has now resigned. The day after running a hyper local campaign shaming the other councillors in the ward for not living in the local area, she herself put her house on the market the day after the election and is about to leave the area. As such, her position was not tenable due to the sheer hypocrisy of it. www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politics/newly-elected-lib-dem-quits-34164303Just wow! I often don't bother reading too much after election day as the posts can get less interesting (having seen reference to it in last night's/this morning's results) but just wow here! I hope that the LD campaigners that were kept in the dark on this, whilst being extolled to put the work in, are banging down appropriate colleagues' doors furiously!!

I don't know whether there will be one, but there can be a double by-election in the same ward. It is very rare though, and last happened in the Bridge of Don ward in Aberdeen on the 3rd of October, 2019. I thought there was a two-seat Scottish by-election earlier this autumn?

There was - Highland, Cromarty Firth - I think there have been one or two others since Bridge of Don.

As LDs are often given to saying : 'The election leaflets will be writing themselves as I type'!

I can't imagine many putting themselves forward to face the doorstep reactions.

Surely they will, and they will be braced to make profuse apologies & prepared to promise no repeat. It's highly unlikely it'll prevent a major vote loss though.

Two pages back some were ramping the possibility of the Lib Dems taking two seats. I really wonder about the standard of analysis on here.

To her credit, she did stand up the principles which she ran her election campaign on- that councillors should live locally. It would have been far more hypocritical to not resign! I think it's very difficult to know how the voters will take it without further information as to why she suddenly decided to move. Whether it was a choice or genuinely forced.

The Lib Dem group leader had the decency to sound embarrassed in the Daily Record article.
