I think you will find that Labour has quite a lot of supporters in the London Borough of Islington. Slightly less so when in government. See the 2002 local elections for example. Hillrise used to be a Lib Dem ward in the 2000s. Plus, two things come up time and again on the doorstep 1) support for Corbyn 2) confusion about why Labour got a Councillor elected in May who's now left the council.

1200 leaflets delivered. Everything in Hillrise east of Crouch Hill now covered. Plus everything down to St John's Way is also covered. Let's do this. We had a successful street canvassing session on Ashmount Road persuading a non-voter to register for a postal vote cast a ballot for us. So far, so good. The hand-written gubbins appreciated (emblematic of the hard work I would do if our campaign succeeds). I stand by the decision implacably. The other independent's leaflet is vapid bumf. This by-election campaign has already been going on for a while, so having five people delivering a total of 1,200 leaflets so far is not very impressive. When I stood in local council by-elections, I routinely delivered 4 or 5 thousand leaflets, on my own, without help from others, to almost the whole ward, within 2 or 3 weeks. There were at least 2 occasions on which I delivered more than 1,000 in one day. Of course it was easier for me because I had a batch of 4.000 leaflets printed properly, without needing to use crayons

And how many votes did you get for every leaflet? Not a lot I would have thought.

In the local council by-elections I stood in (not counting the quadrennial main local elections) i got 15, 25, 15, 21, 62*, 44*, 6, 31*, 25*, and 11*. The ones in which I did mass leaflet delivery were the ones marked *.

Here's what I got: 88 (runner up), 93 (elected), 255 (not elected).

Might be prudent to not mention your support for Brexit. Islington result was 75%/25%. I'm finding this thread hilarious 😂 but sorry although I wish you well, I truly cannot believe that you are writing hundreds and hundreds of leaflets and delivering them. Also I would, in a positive way, advise you to post your canvassing sessions on Twitter X with your group of helpers, which you are not doing - this would help you, only a little, but it should help. If I can get all the Leave voters on side, I could come through the middle - the 25% are woefully under-represented in local government in Islington, I'd argue. I was on the Holly Park Estate today leafletting and a coupe of elderly women were sat outside smoking. The estate is vast, and I imagine had a decent Leave vote back in 2016.

I don’t know why you ask, because it’s not relevant to the numbers of votes I got as an OMRLP candidate.

Are you mentioning the fact you voted leave and/or support(ed) Brexit on your handwritten leaflets? Genuine question not on the ones I've seen.
On a serious point, I hope you're able to cope with the result. I wish you no ill but you are acting in an increasingly erratic manor.
Student Union and I'm not sure I'd be bragging about those figures if I were you.

Was it a small ward, low turnout or both ? edit: just saw the answer - that really doesn’t bear comparison with elections as held under Electoral Commission governance , I’m amazed you have included it.

That would be quite a boost for your campaign and a real coup if he was endorsing you. I'm going to take a guess that he isn't, so I hope you're not claiming it on the doorstep. But then came the news that in trying to corral all the Brexit vote in the ward (over which Islington LBC has no influence) you saw two elderly women on an estate who were smoking. Looks like you've got this in the bag.

I have had no answer answer from asking whether it is indeed true that your writing hundreds of notes and posting them if it is true I suggest you get hold of the Islington Gazette, this is a story surely that they would cover? Would hand you some free publicity.

The Oxford Union is not a student union and never has been and most students don't belong to it
