In the local council by-elections I stood in (not counting the quadrennial main local elections) i got 15, 25, 15, 21, 62*, 44*, 6, 31*, 25*, and 11*. The ones in which I did mass leaflet delivery were the ones marked *. Why are you in the party you are in? I say this as an independent who has won an election. Here's what I got: 88 (runner up), 93 (elected), 255 (not elected). I didn’t bother to mention anything about the number of votes I got in internal elections in the Students’ Union or Electoral Reform Society, because it is of no real significance to the real world. If I were as fregulous as you are, then I would have mentioned that I was elected to go to NUS national conference in 1995, and elected to be a member of the ERS elections panel in 2001.

The Oxford Union is not a student union and never has been and most students don't belong to it And indeed a great many students utterly despise it. I never joined (not least because the membership fee was about two or three weeks' living costs!) and didn't much like the atmosphere on the handful of occasions I went in as a guest. That didn't stop dozens of wannabe candidates from messaging me around election time - to the point that (lectures/tutorials permitting) I used to make a point of going as far out of town as possible on their polling day. I think my record was Cardiff!

Debating society more like. Still student union politics however you brand it/dress it up. Either way derisory vote figure.

I beg to differ, and unless you up your act you’ll be lucky to get 93 on the 15th.

I beg to differ, and unless you up your act you’ll be lucky to get 93 on the 15th. We shall see. General yield I had from voter contact to votes is about 4/1, meaning if I put out 5,000 handwritten leaflets, getting max 1,250 votes isn't impossible. Joshi was at my Oxford college FWIW, not that I'm making excuses. Oxford Dank Memes Society powered me to victory as only ODMS could.

Certainly not impossible, I wouldn’t recommend betting on it though. I am quoting this for posterity.

Are you mentioning the fact you voted leave and/or support(ed) Brexit on your handwritten leaflets? Genuine question not on the ones I've seen. On a serious point, I hope you're able to cope with the result. I wish you no ill but you are acting in an increasingly erratic manor. Student Union and I'm not sure I'd be bragging about those figures if I were you. Oxford Union Standing Committee Trinity 2018. Elderly women sitting outside smoking speak of little else ...

Never underestimate the power of bollocks, bullshit and wishful thinking, sanders seems to have mobilised a massive rainbow coalition of right-wing libertarians, Brexiteers, smokers, elderly females and Corbynites. Initial prediction - I win with 22%? Basic maths 1.01. 5 candidates. The probability of winning with 22% of the vote in incredibly unlikely.
