It appears to be a Lancs/Yorks border name; there was a Tory candidate for Huddersfield West in 1974 called John Stansfield, and both Gracie Fields (real name Stansfield) and Lisa Stansfield were from the Rochdale area, although Lisa was born in Manchester. Contrary to a once-held popular belief, the two are not related to each other.

I think, rather than that the "election is cancelled", what you meant to say is that a single nomination has been received and therefore no poll has been called.

I also find the term "election cancelled" very confusing. It would be helpful to know if a candidate is returned unopposed, or no nominations were received.

How does Wayne Erasmus manage to move around Carmarthenshire and Swansea standing in different community by-elections. Under English electoral law, one can only stand if one lives, works or owns property in the parish or lives within three miles of the parish (the 3-mile rule).
Is his "winging" it, on the basis that he will only be challenged if elected, or are Welsh election rules different?

I wonder how long Burlescombe will last without some more byelections?

Is his "winging" it, on the basis that he will only be challenged if elected, or are Welsh election rules different? The qualifications appear to be the same, see section 1.1 www.electoralcommission.org.uk/sites/default/files/2022-02/Part%201%20Can%20you%20stand%20for%20election%20Community%20LGW_0.pdf more detail 1.12 to 1.23. Mr Erasmus seems to give his address as "The County of Carmarthenshire". I imagine he is winging it, though he has been elected a few times already in uncontested elections. I also note that he doesn't stand in every single vacancy in either county (though certainly most).
