Are these by elections included in the BBC local election figure or are they additional, asking for a friend. They are almost certainly not included in the BBC figures (based on what they've done with past year's results.) I think they should not be, but sometimes in the past I think they've made mistakes when there is a byelection in a council that is also having regular elections.

I’ve just realised that this might be the first time (that I can recall) when all the May local elections have taken place without any being deferred because of a candidate’s death. Has anyone spotted one that I haven’t noticed ?

The two Brighton and Hove byelections, in Kemptown and Queen's Park wards, are both Labour regains.

Although bearing in mind the size of the majorities last May it would have been quite a shock if they weren't... self-inflicted damage or not.

I make that a 4.7% swing Lab to Grn in Queens Park, with a 0.4% swing the other way in Kemptown (everybody's down between 1 and 2%, except the LDs, who are 4.6% up). Under the circumstances of the elections not bad for Labour.

Dennison's conduct during this campaign has been deplorable. I am pleased that we have held him off. I did do one canvass in this ward when Sadiq Khan came over a few weeks ago. What did he do that was deplorable? he made some unfounded and potentially libellous accusations about the council Labour group and also insulted the Labour candidate in an entirely gratuitous fashion. It was Gallowayesque behaviour from an increasingly Gallowayesque local political figure.
