A lot of bad apples in the barrel that is Hackney Council, aren't there? First Dewey, then Glanville, and now this clusterfuck. Coban isn't exactly a saint either.

Labour have had majority control since the 2001 General Election - I hope for Labour's sake that isn't the case in 2026 and will be campaigning for a Green win.

You've gone back 26 years to pull that one out and yet not a word about the series of allegations and convictions for Labour councillors.

You've gone back 26 years to pull that one out and yet not a word about the series of allegations and convictions for Labour councillors. Put it like this: 20% of all the Hackney Green Party councillors throughout entire world history, have been convicted of possessing indecent images. That's several powers of ten higher than the proportion of Hackney Labour councillors. Note that all Philip Glanville did wrong was forget that he had attended a party with someone.

Are you going to provide similar stats for all other local authorities?

Stoke Newington, eh? Now there's a ward the Greens could now win with Labour in government. If Labour are lucky, this and London Fields (if / when we get by-elections) will be on the same day. 2009 by-election (Stokey Central): LAB 1162, GRN 783, LD 297; CON 169, COMMUNIST 20. I might make a few phone calls to certain people in Hackney after hearing about this news. However, the areas has gentrified a lot since 2009. 2009 was closer to when my parents almost bought a house in Stoke Newington for 99 grand than it is to 2024. Plus the frustration about the Diane Abbott fiasco was real and might impact this. It depends how enthusiastically, to the extent that she is able to do so, Diane Abbott involves herself, or not (for what it's worth, which may not be all that much).

I think Deputy Mayor is a politically restricted job, so resignation is mandatory.

Instrestingly, I think Coban took up this job after the failed ousting of Abbott, of which he was most certainly lined up to take her seat.

I think Deputy Mayor is a politically restricted job, so resignation is mandatory. I think this is slightly different - you can carry on being an elected representative if you get a politically restricted job - the restrictions kick in at the end of your term. But I think the GLA have specific rules that require you to resign on appointment.
