So far all I've found is this tweet from Islington council confirming that it is a resignation. Steadman's twitter account appears to be locked.
Apropos of nothing (surely) but Jeremy Corbyn is thought to have carried that ward. It's opposite the road from me so I'll be campaigning in Hillrise for the Greens.

I am seeking the Green Party nomination in Hillrise ward in Islington North for the 15th August by-election. Non-aligned Forum member seeks party nomination ... Correct. I'm realistic about who can beat Islington Labour and will register as a Green here if I am selected for Hillrise ward next week.

But wouldn't election to the council hinder your role as Chancellor of the University of Oxford? Only 24 hours in each day.

In that case I'm going to stand for election as Chancellor of Oxford University and then enrol on a course there if I win.

You have commented in the forum on more than one occasion that you live in Camden, Hampstead and Highgate. So, in order to be a candidate in Islington, it is usual to be a local government elector in Islington. Alternatively: 1) You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the local authority area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election. 2) Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of your nomination and the day of election has been in the local authority area. 3) You have lived in the local authority area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election. Fuller details here. I take it that you do indeed meet one of the qualifications. You then have to navigate Islington Green Party's selection procedures. Do not be surprised if they view you as a parvenu.

Whenever I stand in local elections, I always assume that I can because I am a resident, elector and homeowner in the council area, so why it is then that I see elections where people come from miles away and still be duly nominated?

Hackney, London Fields (2026). Lee Laudat-Scott (Labour) has ceased to be a councillor. 2022 London Fields results, courtesy of andrewteale . 'Anntoinette Bramble Lab 2156 61.0% M Can Ozsen Lab 1741 Lee Laudat-Scott Lab 1685 Carrie Hamilton Grn 915 25.9% Graham Woodruff Grn 498 Paul Urwin Grn 474 Les Kelly LD 464 13.1%' In the mayoral election I suspect the Greens broke 30% there. It's gentrifying a lot around the Fields and you have multimillion pound houses in Richmond Road. I know it from living in Hackney so look forward to campaigning for the Green candidate. If you visit Lodon Fields, Brat x Climpson's Arch is a delightful restaurant.
