Why would Labour HQ bother with this? Corbyn would always vote with them and his presence is a useful way of telling everyone that they're sane again. And Islington North should fall into their lap when Corbyn retires or dies. why? because, for many Labour Party members, including most of its Jewish ones, he is beyond the pale & needs to be opposed. I hope he wins. I agree, mostly, what he believes. Certainly not Starmer!

In the seemingly plausible (albeit probably not the most likely) scenario that Corbyn wins this and Pete Wishart loses his race, Corbyn will be the MP with the longest continuous spell in opposition. Ever? Not yet, because there would have been quite a lot of Labour MPs who did the whole 1979-1997 stretch

Jeremy Corbyn has announced that he IS standing as an Independent candidate And he will win. He well might but it is still a might as many Labour supporters dislike his style and his core interests and the disruptive neo-Trot factionalism he caused and still causes. It has created a contest of real interest. The Gaza factionalism has potential to cause quite a bit of damage to Labour even if it does not lose them many seats.

He has posted a video statement That hit the right note and the right level without rancour or buzz words. It was a refreshing and sensible pitch. He might just do this. Every seat like this makes the Labour hill higher and steeper.

Every seat like this makes the Labour hill higher and steeper. I agreed on the video (although the line on his bifocals is distracting), but him winning the seat won't make this at all harder for Labour. In the event of a hung Parliament his vote will always be with Labour on matters of confidence.

The only other former Labour Party Leader to get thrown out for opposing the party was Ramsay MacDonald. Wasn't George Barnes also expelled?

Those expecting a labour win may be forgetting, Dave nelliet and Ken Livingstone - 1992 and 2000. In GE1992 Nellist got very close in Coventry after being expelled by labour and of course, Ken won the London mayoral Election as an independent. Both of these are salient parallels.

Every seat like this makes the Labour hill higher and steeper. This is Corbyn in his element. Idealistic, principled and sincerely able to appeal to his base without the need to compromise by having a programme for government or trying to appeal to a wider portion of the national electorate.

Makes Corbyn's job easier. Nargund is a private health company CEO and has a low profile in Islington

Been hoping for this for a long time, because now Labour can take the gloves off. Very much looking forward to seeing what skeletons are dumped out of this closet.

They could, but there are also things that could really annoy the activists. They won't take kindly to beating up grandpa. Besides the aim for Labour should be to show swing voters that Labour's no longer mad, not to remind everyone of the fever swamp Labour was in until 2019
