Bigger majority here than in 1992 for the Tories. Unique for a Middlesex seat I think. Well it's almost unique in being a Middlesex seat that the Conservatives hava a majority in at all.. I guess I should have London seat ...

Was this the only seat where the Conservatives surpassed 50% of the vote? I think so. I don't think there are all that many where they exceeded 40%. If I recall correctly, there were about a dozen Conservative seats with over 50% of the vote back in 1997 (it would be interesting to see where they've ended up over time, although boundary changes will no doubt have impacted comparisons).

It is rather ironic that the forum predicted a Labour gain in the seat which ended up with the largest Conservative vote in the country.
Our collective expertise seems to have failed here.

Well the word on the grapevine was that Labour were confident. So, blame it on Labour not the forumers.

I don’t know if this still holds true, but Blackman was a rather popular MP when I left (I’m not from the constituency, but I know this part of Harrow rather well). Both Harrow East, and Hendon are inelastic and should record relatively low swings (even compared to London). posted this back in may.

Bob Blackman has got this seat for as long as he wants it, let's be honest.

The electorate figure here used by the BBC and Sky News (76,386) is incorrect. That was the status of the Register as of the Notice of Election dated 31 May 2024. The correct figure, displayed in the election results section of Harrow Council's web site, is 76,513. This figure is the electorate as of the Final Election Notice of Alteration of 27 June 2024.

I used to work with an Indian guy (young guy with a young family, renting, not a very Tory demographic) who thought Rishi was useless, didn't like the Tories but without prompting named Bob Blackman as the best politician in the country! I imagine it's very unusual for constituents to have such a strong opinion of their MP (especially a positive opinion), Blackman's personal vote must be one of the biggest an MP has ever had.

Three main reasons for this.
1. The Hindu vote. Blackman has developed a huge vote in what is now the dominant voting block in his constituency and is seen as very close to the BJP/Modi who are generally very popular with most Hindus in this seat.
2. The Jewish vote. There's a large Jewish vote in Stanmore and Blackman has also been assiduously pro-Israel.
3. Hard work. Blackman campaigns every weekend, all year round regardless of whether there are elections on or not. He's an absolute campaigning machine and has probably personally knocked on every door in the entire constituency at some point.
He's probably an important part of why the Conservatives won Harrow Council in 2022 as well.
