And to take this thread vaguely back on topic, the Castle Inn on Colchester High Street serves a nice pint of Landlord.
Slightly surprisingly for an Essex pub, it in fact has an entirely Yorkshire line up of ales: Timmy Taylor Landlord, Boltmaker and Knowle Spring, and Theakston Old Peculier.

How did the Landlord take that?Another vampire at work, obviously. I didn't see myself as being in any way ambiguous in that quite coherent post YP. "Tim Taylor's Landlord is a long established and well liked alcoholic beverage, M'Lud!" There had been exchanges of views upon it very recently in these columns with ArmchairCritic being less than fulsome in his appreciation of the contemporary iteration of this brew. Absolutely ,old chap! There was nothing in my comment to suggest that there was anything wrong with what you said, and yes I was aware that Landlord was a beer that some Yorkshire folk seemed to like and that there had been some dispute as to whether it was as good as in the past. However, having made my comment about stakes and vampires, I just liked the thought that you were consuming 3 pints of landlord. In this time of high tension and anticipation, we may need our feeble little jokes, sorry.

It used to sell absolutely rancid pints of Old Speckled Hen back in my day. Then I became old enough to drink legally and I'm not sure I've been back since.

But I visited for the first time in a decade or so last year (an event was being held there), was surprised at the transformation and have been back a fair few times since - it's got a great location by the war memorial and park gates and it always seemed a shame that it didn't make more of it.
