Obviously if one were to guess a good seat for Farage to stand in it would be Clacton but beyond that has there been any confirmation that is the chosen seat?

I feel like he'd probably win it, but surely they won't win any others? He gets his foot in the door (or his arse on the green benches), then can easily defect to the Tories at some point if he wants.

Carswell had a good personal following after being MP there for a decade and only won by 3000 at a GE as a UKIP candidate. Farage realistically isn’t going to be able to replicate that, for a non-party and a fairly lazy candidate. I don't think that's a mark against him. It was a Tory stronghold, the Tory candidate was a former actor, the party was strong in 2015 and heading for a shock majority, and the Conservatives promised to deliver UKIP's raison d'être, an EU referendum. I think Carswell did very well to win the seat.

His original statement was "I'm off to fight the US election because that means more than parochial, backwards England" (I paraphrase obviously).
This new statement will be the reverse ferret we all predicted he'd make. Maybe Trump's 34 counts has persuaded Farage to rethink his evaluation of the UK?

If Farage will run, it'll be much like Perot where his deciding to run after all will take the wind out of his sails to some extent. Can't see him winning Clacton.

Farage standing, and standing as leader of Reform which he will be for the next five years.

He's replaced Tice as leader. That's the next all party leadership debate with him taking part.

I wonder if Carswell endorses anyone. He was a popular and effective MP and he'll certainly be remembered. Also had a few very loyal activists locally.

Nigel Farage has failed in seven previous attempts to be elected as an MP, having contested these elections …
1994 Eastleigh byelection (Votes 952, vote share 1.7%, 4th) 1997 Salisbury (3,332, 5.7%, 4th) 2001 Bexhill and Battle (3,474, 7.8%, 4th) 2005 South Thanet (2,079, 5%, 4th) 2006 Bromley and Chislehurst byelection (2,307, 8%, 3rd - Rachel Reeves was 4th) 2010 Buckingham (8,410, 17.4%, 3rd - running against speaker John Bercow. 2nd was John Stevens representing the Buckinghamshire Campaign for Democracy) 2015 South Thanet (16,026, 32.4%, 2nd)

OK Nigel, you saved your deposit, now take your meaningless 4 or 5,000 votes and go back to whatever it was you were doing before the election.

I've seen in a YouTube video, so I don't know if it's correct, that 'some polls' put Farage 10% ahead in Clacton

Labour member derides voters as meaningless if they don't vote Labour.
