Not quite sure where these percentages are coming from (given they quote the Survation poll) but huge, if true! Imagine Labour winning here!! That looks like a good way to get the Reform vote out.

Sounds like another lie from Labour. Clactonians won't be fooled again by the duopoly. Reform UK easy win , by about 5,000

Anyone have a link to the Labour Survation poll? It's such a contrast to their one for Banks it makes them look like muppets. Unless the local Labour campaign thought the Twitter account should be put in the hands of the 15 year old volunteer. EDIT: Survation put up the Banks poll on their blog 16 hours ago. Not seen the three way tie cited by Labour: www.survation.com/farage-set-to-win-clacton/

Even if the poll is made up, Reform could still put the Tweet on their literature with very small print saying it's from a dud poll. Their biggest dangers are their voters not coming out and left wing voters holding their nose for Watling.

At the declaration: "so this is how identity politics dies, with thunderous applause"

So no apology, no resiling from the sentiment, no undertaking to 'do better in future' or 'continue to learn' or declaration that 'this is not who I am' or any of the other usual hairshirt mantras that any white candidate who had expressed an equivalent sentiment about black people would be forced to utter. Just " well yeah, obviously I wouldn't have said that publicly if I'd known I was going to be a candidate in a high profile election with an overwhelmingly White electorate"
But does he wonder why this might lead to some hostility from some of those same White men on the doorstep?
No - of course it's because they're racist. What a cunt.

No - of course it's because they're racist. What a cunt. The logic there is interesting. I can say what I like when I'm using a public forum as a private citizen, and you can't criticise it. Now I'm running for office, this is a different person. He might want to try freeman-on-the-land stuff. Although fair play, he hasn't given a grovelling apology. It would be great to see a politician openly say "many people have found my comments offensive, which was my aim". Regardless of where they are on the political spectrum.

Regardless of where they are on the political spectrum. He isn't required to issue an apology because of the obvious double standard. Had a white candidate from any party been found to have said something so blatantly hostile to black people, they would have been handed the script containing all the stock phrases I mentioned and still disowned as a candidate

Big applause to whoever in Reform was tasked with searching through his feed and not finding anything hurtful. "My favourite drink is white man's tears" is boastful and crude. I can't see the racism at all. It's crass and that's about it.

Perhaps you could help me out here - breakdown the phrase "My favourite drink is white man's tears" and explain to me what it means.

Personally I don't think the phrase is offensive but if a white man said "My favourite drink is black man's tears" we all know that the usual suspects would be outraged.

If a white man had said that, doktorb🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🤯, yet a black guy says it and it's no issue. We need to understand that it's merely "crass" etc. Personally, I think that's the racism of low expectations, and therefore really quite insidious.

You don't have to look far on this forum to find it.

The Reform Party candidate for Clacton was shooting clays at my aunt's place in Cheshire today. The shame of it...

It's not that far removed from football fans cheering the disappointment of the opposition. Neither you nor I are black. I am going to guess that it must feel rather good to succeed against, or win against, a body of people who constantly doubt, undermine, and belittle you. Hearing people go crazy over a tactless but otherwise harmless remark is the point being made, isn't it? He didn't say a racist thing, and it's got white men losing their marbles.

Thanks that really clears things up for me. Very concise explanation. So this bloke regards white men as 'the opposition'? How is this not racist? No - we're 'the opposition'

Making judgements about nameless groups of people because you're not keen...come on Dok, you know what this is. You've criticised it before yourself.
