Tomorrow's Sunday Times reporting the police are investgating an anti-Ashworth, pro-Adam leaflet without an imprint. The Adam campaign denies involvement.
A by-election in Leicester South might not be the exactly the type of seat or issue profile Labour would like to engage with right now.

Sour grapes. If there's a by-election (won't be), another independent would walk it and Ashworth could lose again. He should shut up and wait for his peerage, IMO.

He's taking his defeat well then.

That is an almost childlike behaviour to his defeat. EDIT: I see he is now the director of Labour Together, the Labour right think tank (the previous director now being the MP for Makerfield).

It seems like Ashworth's conduct in private isn't much better "Following the election shock result, Leicester South CLP secretary Naj Hussan took to social media to congratulate Adam on his victory and praise his campaign – a traditional display of grace in defeat. Ashworth was furious." In an email to members of the CLP, Hussan said that he had demanded an apology after Ashworth had made a “baseless accusation and personal attack in a public forum that I have been ‘helping opponents’”. Hussan said: “I understand that emotions were maybe running high immediately after the result, however, I have under advice, requested, quite formally, a full apology and retraction of the statement that has left me significantly distressed and alarmed over the last few days … the toll this has taken on my mental health has been significant.” The “defamatory statement” by Ashworth was based on a social media post in which Hussan congratulated the new MP on his election. In the post, Hussan outlined that Adam’s campaign was “community driven”- something Labour must “review, heed and use to build trust back”. Anyone who doubted Hassan’s loyalty need only look at how he remained “part of the party following immense pressure to resign from many people on the Gaza issue”, as well as at the hours he spent during the election, “even doing administrative tasks behind the scenes while I was on holiday in Turkey with my family”. Hussan referred the matter to Labour’s Legal and Compliance Unit and CLP Executive Committee. Novara Media understands that Ashworth has since apologised." novaramedia.com/2024/07/26/jonathan-ashworth-apologises-after-leaving-party-colleague-distressed-and-alarmed/

Ashworth gets a lot of airtime. That was the case before July. I’m not sure it’s justified editorially. He’s not in Keir Starmer’s cabinet. He’s not (yet) in the Lords. Even if you’re an Ashworth fan, what I’ve said here is objective fact.

Ashworth definitely qualifies for the bad loser thread. Compare Debbonaire, or even Khalid Mahmood. And quite a lot of Conservatives.
No more than I expect from the man though. Disappointment is no excuse.

That is the thinnest most ludicrous piece of sub-journalistic shite I've read in a long time - is Parsley Ashworth's secret gay lover?

Maybe he still thinks he's MP. I hope he comes to terms. I hope he gets over it. He is still pretty young too. He could easily come back elsewhere. Just not in Leicester South (hopefully).

I've decided to become an Ashworth fan solely to annoy sanders. The one thing I will say is it's easy to be a gallant loser as a Tory MP who has had 2 years to digest defeat mentally and quite another to have a total bolt out of the blue at the count.

I doubt Ashworth saw it coming. I suspect most Tory MPs did. E.g. Jacob Rees-Mogg or Grant Shapps. You make a good point here.

Ashworth opposed a ceasefire in Gaza. He deserved everything he got here. The new MP is doing okay. His engagement with the seat - excellent. He may well lose next time. It was more than just Gaza. As someone with nystagmus, it's nice to see a former optician in Parliament too.
