Not shocking one bit. The MP was a pale, male and stale apparatchik (I'm sure he's a nice guy on a persona level)

Most will be shocked. I'd think Ashworth will be given an early by election opportunity somewhere

This one was the Portillo moment. No one thought Ashworth would go up in smoke in Leicester.

I wonder how bad this could get for Labour now that they are in charge.

Surprising that the Workers Party isn't standing here, as they would have likely done well - I wonder if there's some sort of arrangement with another candidate in place
I say that, but ironically it looks like their decision not to ended up costing Labour this seat.

Yes, if the Workers Party and Independents had worked together we may see them win 13 or 14 seats in total. Labour were fortunate.

I have to be careful what I say here, but it is being widely reported that one of Shockat Adam's most prominent supporters has been arrested on terrorism offenses.

Ashworth himself has also commented on this:

Ashworth himself has also commented on this:
Notwithstanding the seriousness of these allegations, "key" is one of those journalistic words, like "senior".

From my understanding Majid was just a dude from Leicester that supported shockat like 14,700 other people. He was not involved in any official capacity in their campaign, so I don’t know how shockat can be linked to this. Also “why must he condemn this individual”. what happened to the concept of being innocent before proven guilty? Pretty poor from Ashworth this.

What's a "counter-terrorism" offence?

Well, the offences he's been charged with are encouragement of terrorism and supporting a proscribed organisation.

What's a "counter-terrorism" offence? I presume it’s intended to refer to an offence under the counter-terrorism legislation. It’s as if someone wrote the words without thinking what they meant.

There is a difference between being a campaigner and merely a voter.

Tomorrow's Sunday Times reporting the police are investgating an anti-Ashworth, pro-Adam leaflet without an imprint. The Adam campaign denies involvement.
