There was a Mr Moore at my sixth form in Buckinghamshire! Small world! Note really. It is an extremely common surname. Back on topic - Labour win. James Moore can't be "an extremely common name" in the context of schoolteachers, can it? I think this and South will be close but the Sunak effect will put the Tories over the top here. I think a similar lead to what the Conservatives got here in '83 but with a different coalition.

The unofficial non-aggression pact between Labour & the LDs has it seems broken down in some constituencies. For example the LDs are ramping themselves in Spelthorne where most people would agree that it's clear that Labour are the challengers in what is a small outside chance for them. I wouldn't be surprised if some Labour people are guilty of it too, but I haven't seen any clear examples. Here, if the aim is to defeat both the Tories & Vaz, it's pretty clear that Labour is far better placed to do that than anyone else. Lib Dems did surge in Leicester around the time of the Iraq War (though mostly in South) so I could see how they may fancy their chances due to split opposition. The demographics in Leicester South are very different from those in Leicester East and were much more friendly to the Lib Dems in 2005 than they are in East in 2024.

In South you also have a decent Green presence around the universities and a fairly strident independent. I think it'll stay Labour, but it won't be safe. Ashworth is lucky that the anti-Labour vote (as in so many seats) will split between various non-Labour lefty options. Bradford West is another case in point.

Vincent Cable has been stumping here for the LD's (obviously). What happened to "stick to the plan"?

Yes, one of the prerequisites of any seats they've added to their target list appears to be a good cllr base so that they can provide their own workers. Definitely not the case here. As far as I could tell the only obvious additions had been Maidenhead, Torbay and possibly Witney.

Did he also make an appearance in Harborough, Oadby & Wigston or just here?

Anyone make a load of money betting here? I didn't bet on Leicester East and South sadly. I made money on Harrow East and Batley & Dewsbury though.

Dewsbury accounted for my entire net profit (but Leicester East helped a lot - Harrow East played a small part)

If you come to the Vote UK drinks, I shall buy you a pint. I put £25 on Streeting losing at 14/1 but no cigar.

I had no inkling that Ashworth was under serious threat, apart from being harassed in the street by the usual suspects. I feel sorry for him actually. He's one of the more likeable Labour front benchers

I mean thats Smethwick on fucking steroids
I'd recommend Starmer doesn't force a by-election in East London to try and get him back into parliament..
