It was Krah's comments on the SS that seems to have been the catalyst. Frankly, I don't blame Le Pen. Krah and the AfD have gone off the deep end a bit. Indeed, Krah, in particular, is basically the CCP's man in Europe, speaking out against Taiwan, against the Uyghurs and even being in favour of China's occupation and colonisation of Tibet. If Le Pen wants to be French President, then distancing herself from the AfD is a must. MLP went on the radio this afternoon and declared the AfD to be churning out "one provocation after another". Another RN source says that Weidel was told in a meeting in Paris in February that she needed to get the party in order.

I feel for Weidel, she’s the only sane high ranking official left… At the current rate, she'll be expelled. Quite why they have put themselves into hock with utter tossers like Krah, or Bystrom or Höcke is incredible. Chrupalla is merely an idiot. The writing was on the wall when Meuthen forced Petry out, and then was forced out himself. I honestly hope the CDU would be willing to accept her (despite her mistakes) after the neo-nazis kick her out. She’s right wing, but I highly doubt that she’s viewed by anyone with an ounce of credibility as neo-nazi or a hardcore extremist.

Btw, I personally supported the AFD until a few months ago, but I wouldn’t touch them with protective gear now, especially their eastern chapters.

I can't be bothered to defend the principle of a fair trial. But I probably ought to.

Not every German troop in WW2 was a criminal, but all of the SS probably were… I would broadly agree, whilst noting that there were conscripts sent to the SS, especially later on. Indeed, in the case of the Malgré-nous (Alsatians forced into the German army), quite a few were sent to the SS in Russia as a punishment for resisting, or were told that there would be reprisals against their families. Günter Grass, however, was a piece of shit. He asked for sympathy for being forced into the SS, after decades of castigating just about everyone for just about anything they did or didn't do during the war. A coward. Right. The wokeWarriors with their hilarious stupidity and inerudity have no idea, that the Waffen-SS was merely an (at the end inflationed) eliteArmy. My grandFather, for example, had in the regular army to report any gifted soldier and quasi automatically hand them over to the Waffen-SS. When someone applied for membership, he was not even allowed to mention his NS-membership. (Although the Waffen-SS was naturally full of exHJers - after all sportism & fascination for technics was an important aspect of Nazism. (What arose after 1945 the question, how to handle them: Were they simple stupid sportBoys without much interest in politics? On the other hand: Is sports & technics really "apolitical" & "unideological"?))

There was a deliberate decision by the allies at the end of the war to make the SS the really bad guys, and take blame off the German army. They needed the German army onside post war, but they also needed someone to punish, hence this decision.

I regard ex-Nazis in much the same was as I regard ex-Communists. Not as bad as current Nazis or current Communists. Requiring deeper investigation before condemnation but no deeper investigation before not employing.

Is it reasonable to expect Fidesz to fill the electoral void?

Notable that plenty of AfD MEPs aren't moaning that the decision has been made, rather they are pinning it firmly on Krah. A report elsewhere suggests that it wasn't RN that set this in motion, but the Danish People's Party.

I'm in (a very rural part of) Sweden for a few months and I just spotted the first placards here next to a roundabout. 4 socialdemokraterna posters, 3 of which look like they have a picture of Magdalena Andersson on them, the fourth a party logo. I couldn't make out the text from the moving car. They were joined this afternoon by a kristdemokraterna placard which looked like a generic party logo with no slogan.
Elsewhere I saw a Sverigedemokraterna poster with the slogan "Vanlig folk mot Bryssel" (ordinary people against Brussels). The smiling couple on the poster behind the slogan certainly lived up to the description of "ordinary".

DF have no fascist past at all and are simply an anti-immigration party which on a number of issues is probably more left wing and progressive than some EPP members!

PVV also supports a number of more left wing policies: only problem is that these are the first to drop when they get a chance to do anything about it.

I don’t think that it’s fair to characterise most of the current members of ID as fascists, especially with people Jean-Marie Le Pen, and Hocke being kicked out, and parties like Golden Dawn, and L’SNS not being allowed to join even when the group was more fringe (and had the name of ENF). But in all honesty, DF is only slightly closer to the average ID party than a potential Wagenknecht-Fico led group.

I think that a lot of the saner Afd people know that that if the shoe was on the other foot, they would have kicked out or suspended a party that had a wing full of borderline neo-nazis like the Afd.

Quite a few of the current/former members are post-fascist or have a some links to it which probably would have been a better/clearer description on my part.
