If Kingswood has the same turnout, and the same net swing from Conservative to Labour, as other recent by-elections, then the result would be:
The same as Bedfordshire Mid: Labour majority 5,600 The same as Tamworth::::::::::: Labour majority 6,100 The same as Selby & Ainsty::::: Labour majority 7,600 The same as Uxbridge & S.R.::: Conservative majority 3,000 The same as Wakefield::::::::::: Labour majority 700

South Gloucestershire have published the timetable for this by-election. Nominations open on Wednesday 17 January and close on Friday 19 January; note that, although the writs were moved at the same time, this is a different timetable from the one North Northamptonshire are using for Wellingborough, for which nominations don't close until Tuesday 23 January. beta.southglos.gov.uk/kingswood-by-election-2024/

The number of people who still vote Tory because they bought a few shares in the 1980s must be infinitesimally small overall.

But I'm always looking for the quote that'll encourage people to read an article and that one jumped out it didn't make me read it. Vox pops have always been a complete waste of time. Scientifically-conducted polls are of much more interest to me.

Quite. But I'm always looking for the quote that'll encourage people to read an article and that one jumped out You proto tabloid journalist you. I'm no good at pointing out my strengths. When I was on form as a music reviewer and social media account person, I was very good at getting traffic. I'm actually a lot better at writing dialogue and using language than I let on. I'm just handicapped by anxiety and self destructive tendencies. C'est la vie.

I would assume not, as it would for any renter and also any mortgage payments paid by a candidate? I don't think his grocery is (or should be) an electoral expense either.

If a candidate was renting somewhere solely for the purpose of the election, then it might count as a personal expense - which is not subject to the limitation on election expenses.

Let's be honest here, I think he will need a permanent foothold in the constituency. He won't lose, I don't think an absentee MP will fly and his sister will get tired of him squatting everytime he attends local events.

Though if he only starts the tenancy on 16th February or afterwards then it wouldn't be an election-related expense anyway.
