What is the Calvin Coolidge Project? They are, or were at the start, a group of Republicans (not necessarily moderates either) opposed to the candidacy of Trump and his ongoing domination of the GOP. Are you thinking of the Lincoln Project? I’m not sure the Calvin Coolidge thing is anything more than a Twitter handle

What is the Calvin Coolidge Project? A news outlet and they are quick to get the stories out.

Ken Buck refused to vote for either candidate because neither would admit that Biden fairly won in 2020 He’s pretty consistent on this issue despite it contradicting most other members in his wing of the conference Buck is also unusual in that he is a genuinely principled fiscal conservative. He is actually worried about deficits and debt regardless of whether there is a Democrat or a Republican in the White House.

The Lincoln Project was notable for playing a part in the bizarre disfunction of Kellyanne Conway’s family Pretty much everybody involved in the Lincoln project are absolute filth. Of all the many reasons to hope that Trump wins next year one of the best is knowing how much pain it will cause these scumbags.

I know they still post on Twitter but that doesn’t necessarily mean much

Jim Jordan doesn't have the votes, IMHO: x.com/Olivia_Beavers/status/1712654718491652107?s=20I believe House Majority Whip, Tom Emmer, now runs. While Jim Jordan is more conservative than 91% of House Republicans: voteview.com/person/20738/jim-jordan, Tom Emmer is more liberal than 57% of House Republicans: voteview.com/person/21531/thomas-earl-ii-emmer. Elise Stefanik may now jump into the race. Trump backing Jordan might have been decisive. Fear of Trump is real. In 2022, Trump endorsed challengers to Liz Cheney, Peter Meijer, Jaime Herrera Beutler and more, and many succeeded. He's already backing 2022 Illinois GOP governor nominee Darren Bailey, challenger to Rep. Mike Bost ahead of 2024,

The GOP are basically as bad as the DUP in their inability to govern. Prove me wrong, House Republicans. Given that 81 people voted for Austin Scott (or more accurately, voted against Jim Jordan), he's fucked. If / when he fails to win, expect Emmer to enter the race. Only Trump has the ability to win this, IMO. In 2021, only 10 House Republicans voted to impeach him, and only two survived 2022. He endorsed Jim Jordan, and yet 113 Republicans ignored him and backed Scalise. This is a joke!

After Jordan won the vote of the GOP conference against Scott there was a further vote with only Jordan on the ballot. He only received 155 votes so he is absolutely no where near 217.
At the moment it seems hard to believe that anyone can get to 217. The hard right won't accept anyone who isn't one of their own and the moderates aren't going to let the hard right get they way after repeatedly defying the will of the majority of the conference.

Democrats are already well-placed to win back the House, with better maps in Alabama and likely redraws in their favour in New York and Wisconsin, and probably Louisiana. This will help that further, as they are likely going to boost their chances of ousting Republicans in seats Biden carried by 10%+ in Cali and NY. House Republicans couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery. IMO, only Trump would get 217/222 Republicans. Many Republicans fear his wrath and of the 10 who voted to impeach Trump in 2021, only two, Dan Newhouse and David Valadao, are still in Congress.

The only realistic scenarios appear to be a compromise Speaker elected with a combination of Republican and Democratic votes, or Patrick McHenry being given more powers as ‘temporary’ Speaker and the House continuing on that basis.

I feel like the second scenario you mention (McHenry getting more power) is most likely.

Plenty of moderate republicans might not have voted to impeach him but they sure as hell don't want him as Speaker and since some are retiring they have no need to fear retribution.
