Scalise apparently won the GOP nomination 113 to 99 over Jordan. Doesn't bode particularly well for his chances of a majority on the House floor.

Ā Trump endorsed Jim Jordan. 10 Republicans abstained. 113 is a bit embarrassing for a House Majority Leader. Scalise has 99 problems and passing legislation wonāt be one. This reminds me of when RON won the Oxford Union election.

Talk is that McCarthy really dislikes Scalise and doesn't think he was the most loyal of deputies. Therefore a number of McCarthy loyalists may be unwilling to back Scalise.

Even with that being true you'd think they'd dislike Jordan more The thing is Jordan backed McCarthy very strongly in January and has done very little, if anything, to undermine him since then. Also part of the calculation is probably that Jordan cannot possibly get 217 votes on the house floor anyway.

I don't think his ideology has changed but once the prospect of being Judiciary Committee Chairman came into view he started to see the benefits of sometimes playing nicely with the other children. In that spirit he has now said that he backs Scalise, has offered to nominate him on the house floor and is apparently working to round up support.

Another ridiculous session of never ending votes really would be potentially fatal for the GOP's governing credibility

Ken Buck refused to vote for either candidate because neither would admit that Biden fairly won in 2020
Heās pretty consistent on this issue despite it contradicting most other members in his wing of the conference

Itās an utter farce and I donāt even see who is a viable compromise candidate like the way Paul Ryan was in 2015

Tom Emmer, House Majority Whip (MN-6), might end up as the compromise candidate if Scalise or Jordan canāt win.

What is the Calvin Coolidge Project? They are, or were at the start, a group of Republicans (not necessarily moderates either) opposed to the candidacy of Trump and his ongoing domination of the GOP.
