No - cancel above message, seems it is the NF anti mosque event, probably chose lidl's to access the cheap bacon and blue bottle cider in defence of Western Culture.

That Lidl stopped doing the really cheap bacon a little over a year ago. Presumably due to the creeping Islamification of Seaton, or possibly the realisation that when you sell a kilo of bacon for less than £1.50, you won't sell much of the more expensive bacon.

I've always said Lid-ill? My mum calls it Lidls, as well as Asdas, Tescos, etc. which I just find infuriating.

I believe it's /'liːdəl/, or leedle, to rhyme with Cheadle. That's how they pronounce it in Germany anyway.

I would have pronounced it in the same way as Roger Liddle or the former Southwark ward of that name

Given the relative socio-economic deprivation in Rothesay, I'm very surprised that none of the hard discounters have tried to ply their trade here, even accounting for the additional cost and hassle of having to carry goods over on the ferry. As it stands, all we have for grocery shopping is a large (small supermarket) Co-Op, a small (convenience store) Co-Op, and a Spar. The nearest alternatives are in Greenock where there's a Tesco as well as Lidl and Aldi.

I have always assumed it to be pronounced LY-dell, although I have never shopped in there. It's interesting that in Germany, despite its affluence, the budget supermarkets have a huge slice of the market. I think Aldi is actually the biggest supermarket chain in the country. There's a Lidl in Stanmore which has always struck me as a bit incongruous

I would imagine Geordies are surprised that Aldis is not open 24 hours a day. I had always assumed it was lid-ill. Ive never actually been to Aldi, prefer Waitrose myself lol.

Strange place, it is compulsory for SNP members to support Hearts of Midlothian.

This by-election thread has taken a very odd turn..... Nothing much happening until the Sunday / Monday papers come out, so just chewing the fat. Now when in Teuchter land (Deliberate attempt to wind people up)we never campaigned or did a leaflet drop on a Sunday, whats the score in Aberdeen.

There I was all ready to listen to the hustings when I hear Taylor state that only 4 of the candidates had been allowed by the BBC to take part. So I didn't listen. It will be amusing if Inglis beats any of the 4 candidates who have been preferred by the BBC and Aberdeen Council's Youth.

How very parochial of Aberdeen. When is this by-election? It seems like you've all been banging on about it for months
