The Herald reports Salmond a saying an independent Scotland would not take on a portion of the UK's trillion-pound national debt unless Westminster agreed to a currency union. Again what is the point of this pick and mix watered down so called Independence movement. It must be bloody embarrassing for the old time activists.

That would be an unusual order of literature. I live in hope, so far everything the SNP has done has been negative and attack focussed much of it personally on the Labour candidate. There is a long time left in the campaign so hopefully they can fit in some positive messages before election day. I strongly doubt that.... Based on their current flailing negativity if the SNP are starting negative then it's only going to get worse from there.

Have bus fares and the First Group been a matter of concern on the doorstep?

Am I the only person to find this remark deeply depressing? Don't shoot the messenger CL, I don't get depressed about it, I attack it head on. Willie, to his immense credit, has not opposed plans for a much needed site in his ward. This stands in marked contrast to his own group leader, Councillor Barney Rubble, ex chair of Grampian Race Equality Council, who put out a leaflet in a council by election of his Phizzog pointing accusingly at piles of rubbish and scapegoating the Gypos, when the Council, having blocked of all their historical sites had failed in its statutory duty to provide them with a legal site. Denizens of the old Lindley site will perhaps recall my quixotic defence of Traveller lifestyle, which began with the line. "I don't like travellers, but then I don't like double glazing salesmen either. But then in a civilized society, they don't need my approval". Aaah yes, the anti-racists and pro-Diversity people who attack Travellers, I know the type well. I once attended a Prison Service conference where a question concerning the depressing fact that there were more men of an African and African Caribbean background in prison than in Further Education was met me the Prison Minister's deeply understanding response about being exercised about the issue and working with colleagues to change the life-choices of these young men. I asked about the more depressing fact that there are more young men of a Traveller background in youth custody than in secondary school and received a rather different response concerning MP's complaints and the requirement for parents to get a grip on their children. Ed Stourton was chairing the meeting and didn't want to let me ask a follow up question so I, along with the lady who asked the previous question, simply called over the good Baron to ask why the two questions had been treated so differently. Response there came none. The Prison Minister, to his shame, was a practising Catholic Labour politician - well, I grassed him up to his wife at a meeting in Salford a few years later. I know this is the wrong thread for this and I will shut up now.

Norman Collie was kicked out of Labour and was an independent; now SNP. He's bound to have some distaste for Willie. But I heard he's ordered his Lib Dem membership form for next month and Tory ones for July.

Is it true that Labour candidate replied during an interview that he isn't sure if he is a a millionaire (it is apparently a difficult question)? I saw twitter suggestions but I guess it's an improvement compared to when he didn't know his own personal opinion on education fees.

Well quite. Most of his wealth will be held in assets of fluctuating value such as shares and property. If its borderline you are not going to know without checking the share prices every day and getting an estate agent round to value your house

You make sense. I found the exact context of his answer (which is what you suggested. He has several properties). He's likely not a millionaire. In Mr Young's council register of interests he lists several properties. "Are you a millionaire?" I ask. He hesitates and then replies: "Difficult question. I don't think so." "Are you nearly a millionaire?" I probe. "I would say probably."Thats just middle class these days. I come from a poor country.

The SNP have went to town on it and press released it as well as having it all over twitter. Again this week the SNP are shying away from saying anything about their own record and are continuing thier negative attack on labour. Sad to report the libdems have abandoned any pretence of honesty in thier campaign. Labour are active and fighting it with their tails up. I have yet to see UKIP, the greens, the SDA, the SCP or the NF. I have to agree a lot of the SNP campaign has been more about what other parties are or are not doing.. the only positive thing I have really heard consistently from the SNP camp is regarding school mergers, which will gain a lot of support from the parents in BOD.

[ .. the only positive thing I have really heard consistently from the SNP camp is regarding school mergers... Its hardly positive to campaign for Holyrood on a council issue that will be determined by a proper statutory consultation process not on the basis of trying to win votes. The SNP are playing party politics with kids education while ignoring he facts that no decision has been made, I dont in anyway see that as positive I see that as pure political opportunism using kids education as a political football. Its a council issue not a Holyrood one the SNP are hardly being positive (or consistent) on the issue. I am sure the voters won't see it that way... People want to know that they will be looked after.. they want a candidate that will stand up for them.. even if it might not be in the Parties interest. I have heard a lot from voters that they feel candidates are hiding behind a consultation that no one has any faith in. Especially when reported of officers having agreed recommendations with councillors. The whole process to the public appears to be a sham..

There I was all prepared to book my ticket to Aberdeen only to find the UKIP candidate is excluded. So I won't be attending or sharing.
